Sta-Kon RB867 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire sizes does the Sta-Kon RB867 ring terminal crimp onto?
The RB867 is a blue vinyl insulated ring terminal sized for 18-14 AWG stranded copper wire. Blue insulation is the standard color code for that range, which is why the barrel is blue rather than red (22-18 AWG) or yellow (12-10 AWG). If your conductor falls outside 18-14 AWG, you need a different barrel size, not this one.
2) Should I use a ring terminal or a fork terminal for a panel ground screw?
Use the ring, like the RB867. A ring terminal has a closed tongue that cannot vibrate or slide off a loosened No. 8 screw, which is why it is the required style on grounding and vibration-prone connections. A fork (spade) terminal is faster to swap because it slides under a partly backed-off screw, so it is the choice where you service the connection often and captive retention is not a concern.
3) What is the RB867 terminal made of, and will it hold up on a copper conductor?
The barrel is copper with a vinyl insulating sleeve, so it is matched to copper conductors with no dissimilar-metal concern. Pair it with a crimp tool sized for 18-14 AWG insulated terminals; the vinyl sleeve supports the wire at the barrel mouth and resists flex at the termination.
4) Are Sta-Kon RB867 terminals made in the USA for government bid work?
Country of origin on the RB867 is the United States, which matters on federal, state, and institutional jobs carrying domestic-sourcing requirements. The part number to specify is RB867.
