Metallics JSHK5 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size are the Metallics JSHK5 J-hooks?
The Metallics JSHK5 is a 3-1/2 by .375 inch J-hook in steel with a zinc finish. The 3-1/2 inch figure is the hook length and .375 inch is the wire diameter, so it is sized for hanging or suspending runs rather than light-duty picture-hook work.
2) Are Metallics JSHK5 J-hooks zinc plated for corrosion resistance?
Yes, the JSHK5 is steel with a zinc finish (St-zn). Zinc plating suits dry indoor electrical work such as ceiling plenums, basements, and mechanical rooms. For sustained wet or exterior exposure, a stainless or hot-dip galvanized hook is the better call.
3) What is a J-hook like the Metallics JSHK5 used for on an electrical job?
J-hooks support and route wire, cable, and conduit runs overhead without building a full tray or strut system. The open hook lets you drop cable in from above and add to the run later, which is why they are standard on low voltage and branch circuit pulls. The JSHK5 is an electrical supply item at 3-1/2 inches with a .375 inch body.
