Kawneer KW027109-00 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Kawneer KW027109-00 interlock silencer actually do on a 990 sliding door?
It sits at the interlock junction where the sliding panel meets the fixed panel and does two jobs: dampens the noise of the panels meeting, and absorbs the repeated impact so the adjacent interlock components do not take the shock. When yours is flattened, torn, or missing, you hear the panels slam and the interlock starts wearing. Part number KW027109-00.
2) Do I have to modify the door or drill anything to install this interlock bumper?
No modification. Kawneer builds it as a drop-in replacement for a worn or damaged interlock silencer in an existing 990 Sliding Door assembly, so it goes in against the original prep with no cutting or new holes.
3) Is a generic aftermarket bumper good enough, or should I order the genuine Kawneer part?
On an interlock the part has to match the original dimensionally or the panels either bind or still meet metal to metal. The KW027109-00 is the authentic Kawneer service part built to the original specification for dimensional accuracy and material consistency, which is the reason to use it over a generic cut-to-fit bumper.
4) My 990 sliding door is noisy when the panels close. Is the interlock silencer what I need?
That is the part that addresses it. The silencer sits at the interlock interface and dampens sound there, so a door that has gone loud at the point where the panels come together is usually running a compressed or missing KW027109-00. Replacing it also restores the impact cushion protecting the surrounding interlock hardware.
5) Is this a commercial-duty part or a residential sliding door part?
Commercial. The KW027109-00 is classed as a commercial service part and is intended for continuous-use openings such as storefront entrances, healthcare and school entries, hotel lobbies and municipal buildings running Kawneer 990 sliding doors.
6) Is the KW027109-00 sold as a single piece or a set?
It is a single ordering choice, one part number, KW027109-00. If your 990 opening has silencers at more than one interlock point, or you are servicing several doors in a building, order the quantity to match the number of positions you are replacing.
