Kawneer KW027108 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Kawneer KW027108 interlock weathering part actually do on a 990 sliding door?
It is the weathering that seals the interlock zone, the point where the sliding panel meets its mating member. When that weathering is worn, flattened, or torn, the opening loses its weathertight seal and air and water get through. The KW027108 restores the sealing and interlock performance on the Kawneer 990 Sliding Door system.
2) Will the KW027108 fit any Kawneer sliding door, or only the 990 series?
Only the 990. Kawneer builds the KW027108 specifically for the 990 Sliding Door system, so it drops into that door with no modification. If your door is a different Kawneer series, this is the wrong part, and the correct weathering for that series should be sourced by its own Kawneer part number.
3) My 990 sliding doors are drafty at the meeting point. Is the interlock weathering the part to replace?
That is exactly the symptom this part addresses. Drafts and water at the point where the panels meet usually mean the interlock weathering has compressed or torn. Replacing it with the KW027108 restores the weathertight seal at that zone and helps put the energy performance of the opening back where it was.
4) Is KW027108 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket equivalent?
Genuine Kawneer. The KW027108 is an OEM service part carried under Kawneer's own service parts program, made to the same standards as the components originally installed in the door.
5) Is this weathering rated for commercial storefront traffic or is it a light-duty residential part?
Commercial. The KW027108 is classified as a commercial-use component, which is what you want on high-traffic entrances such as retail storefronts, healthcare entries, schools, and municipal buildings where the door cycles constantly.
6) What part number do I give my supplier for Kawneer 990 interlock weathering?
Order it as Kawneer KW027108, described as Interlock Weathering for the 990 Sliding Door. That model number is what identifies it in Kawneer's service parts list, and it is the number to quote so you get the 990 weathering rather than a similar profile from another series.
