Kawneer KW911692 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Kawneer KW911692 fit?
The KW911692 is a 5-pin lock cylinder supplied as a genuine Kawneer service part for the Kawneer 990 Sliding Door system. It is built as a direct-fit replacement for that system's door hardware, so if you are servicing a 990 sliding door it drops into the existing cylinder location without modifying the door.
2) Is the KW911692 cylinder a 5-pin or 6-pin keyway?
It is a standard 5-pin tumbler cylinder. That matters if your building is keyed on a 6-pin system, because a 5-pin cylinder cannot be pinned into a 6-pin master key plan. Confirm what your other openings are pinned to before you standardize on this one.
3) Does the KW911692 come as a complete lock or just the cylinder?
Just the cylinder. The KW911692 is the 5-pin lock cylinder alone, sold as a service replacement part. The rest of the 990 sliding door lock assembly, hook bolt, keeper and trim stay in place and are not included, so if your failure is in the lock body rather than the cylinder this is not the part you need.
4) Can I key the KW911692 to match the other doors in my building?
It is a standard 5-pin tumbler cylinder, so a locksmith can pin it to an existing 5-pin keyway and bring the sliding door onto the same key as your other openings. Property managers running a master key plan should hand it to their locksmith for keying rather than expecting it pre-keyed to the building.
5) Is this cylinder rated for commercial entrance traffic or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The KW911692 is built for commercial door hardware duty and is used on storefront and building entrances, office buildings, schools, healthcare and government facilities, and multi-tenant properties running Kawneer 990 sliding doors.
6) How do I confirm the KW911692 is the right Kawneer part number for my order?
Order by model KW911692, brand Kawneer, described as the 5-pin standard lock cylinder for the 990 Sliding Door. That model designation is what distinguishes it from other Kawneer service cylinders, so quote it on the purchase order rather than describing the part.
