Kawneer KW033486 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Kawneer KW033486 retractor actually do on a Falcon 2090 rim exit device?
The KW033486 is the retractor component that drives latch retraction inside a Falcon 2090 rim exit device. When the push pad no longer pulls the latch fully back, or the latch stays sluggish after the pad is released, the retractor is the part being replaced. Swapping it restores normal latch retraction so the device releases and re-latches the way it should.
2) My push bar depresses but the latch will not pull back. Is the retractor the part I need?
That symptom points at the retraction mechanism, and the KW033486 is the retractor Kawneer supplies for the Falcon 2090 rim device to correct it. Before ordering, confirm the device is a rim type with the latch at the strike jamb rather than a vertical rod device, and confirm the retractor is the failure point rather than the latch assembly or a bound push pad, since those are separate components.
3) Is this a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a genuine Kawneer service part, sourced from the manufacturer rather than an aftermarket reproduction. For anyone servicing Kawneer aluminum entrances with Falcon 2090 rim hardware, that matters: the part matches original equipment fit and function, so the repair keeps the opening operating as specified.
4) Is the KW033486 retractor rated for commercial traffic, or is it a light-duty part?
Commercial. The retractor is intended for commercial door hardware installations where high-cycle performance is expected, which is the environment Falcon 2090 rim devices are normally used in. It is the correct grade of part for school corridors, office lobbies, hospitals, retail entrances, and government buildings.
5) Can I keep the existing exit device and just replace the internal part, or do I need a whole new device?
Replacing the retractor is the service route. The KW033486 is sold as a replacement component so an existing Falcon 2090 rim device can be repaired in place instead of pulling and re-prepping the door for new hardware. That keeps the door prep, trim, and strike untouched, which is why facilities and MRO groups stock service parts for devices already standardized across a building.
6) Does ordering the KW033486 get me anything besides the retractor itself?
What ships is the retractor component alone, ordered as a single item under model KW033486. It is not a device, a latch kit, or a trim package, so if the repair also calls for a latch assembly, strike, or push pad, those are ordered separately.
