Kawneer KW033535-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exit device does the Kawneer KW033535-17 package fit?
It is built specifically for the Falcon 2090 series rim exit device. It is a Kawneer service replacement package, so it is intended for Kawneer openings running that 2090 rim device rather than as a general-purpose exit device kit. If the door carries a different series or a surface vertical rod device, this package will not fit it.
2) Is the KW033535-17 a complete exit device or just a repair part?
It ships as a complete Falcon 2090 rim exit device package, not a single loose component. The package carries the parts needed to bring a worn or damaged 2090 rim device back to working condition, which is what you want when the whole device is past repair rather than needing one touchpad or one endcap.
3) What finish is the Kawneer KW033535-17 and will it match my existing storefront doors?
Clear Aluminum, matched to Kawneer's factory finish. On a run of Kawneer storefront entrances already in clear anodized aluminum, the replacement device will read the same as the ones beside it. If your openings are dark bronze or black anodized, this finish will not match and you should order the equivalent package in that finish.
4) Is a rim exit device the right choice, or do I need a vertical rod device?
A rim device like the Falcon 2090 latches into a surface strike on the frame head or jamb, which suits a single door or a pair with a center mullion. A pair of doors with no mullion needs a surface or concealed vertical rod device instead, because a rim device has nothing to latch into at the center of the opening. Check what is on the frame before ordering this package.
5) Why order the Kawneer service part instead of a generic exit device for a Kawneer door?
Kawneer service parts are made to the same factory specs as the original equipment on the opening, so the prep, the finish and the function all line up with what came out. On an aluminum storefront that is the difference between a drop-in swap and re-drilling the stile to suit a third-party device.
6) Is the Kawneer KW033535-17 suitable for residential doors?
No. It is specified for commercial use only. The Falcon 2090 rim package is meant for egress hardware on commercial entrances, in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential buildings and government facilities. For a house door, it is the wrong class of hardware.
