Kawneer KW033535-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Kawneer KW033535-40 exit device package left hand or right hand?
The KW033535-40 comes factory-configured left-handed. Handing is set at the factory, so it is not something you flip in the field. If the door you are replacing swings the other way, you need the right-handed version of this Falcon 2090 rim package instead. Stand on the outside of the opening and note which edge carries the hinges before you order.
2) Will a rim exit device like the Falcon 2090 work on a pair of doors?
A rim device latches into a strike on the frame or into a mullion, not at the head and sill. On a single door it works on its own. On a pair, you need a mullion between the leaves for the rim latch to catch, or you use a vertical rod device instead. The KW033535-40 package is set up for single-door egress.
3) Can I use the KW033535-40 package to replace an existing Falcon 2090 on a Kawneer door?
Yes, that is what it is built for. The package is a complete rim exit device supplied as a like-for-like replacement in existing Falcon 2090 series installations, so you are swapping device for device rather than re-prepping the door. Confirm your existing unit is left-handed and Dark Bronze so the swap is a true match.
4) What finish is the Kawneer KW033535-40 exit device, and will it match other bronze door hardware?
Dark Bronze. That is the finish most commonly paired with bronze anodized aluminum storefront framing, so it will read consistently against Kawneer entrance doors and frames in the same finish family. If the rest of your openings are aluminum or clear anodized, order the matching finish rather than mixing.
5) Is the KW033535-40 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket substitute?
It is an authentic Kawneer service part, supplied for Falcon 2090 series installations. For property managers standardizing on Kawneer entrances, that matters: the service part keeps the device consistent with what the door was originally furnished with, rather than introducing a different device into the fleet.
6) Is this device suitable for a high-traffic commercial entrance, or is it a residential-grade part?
It is designated commercial, intended for high-traffic door applications such as offices, schools, healthcare, retail, and government buildings. It is not a residential product.
