Kawneer KW033536-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Kawneer KW033536-40 exit device package right-hand or left-hand?
Right-handed. The KW033536-40 comes factory configured for a right-hand door, so there is no field handing change to make. If your opening is left-hand, this is the wrong part number and you need the left-hand version of the Falcon 2090 rim device package instead.
2) What exactly is the Kawneer KW033536-40, a complete exit device or just parts?
It is a Falcon 2090 rim exit device package supplied by Kawneer as a service replacement part. The package carries the components needed to restore or complete a Falcon 2090 series rim exit device installation on a commercial opening, which is why it is sold under one number rather than as loose pieces.
3) Will this Kawneer package work on a Falcon 2090 device already hung on my door?
Yes, it is built for the Falcon 2090 rim exit device series and made to original equipment standards, so it matches an existing 2090 rim installation. It is not a package for surface vertical rod, concealed rod, or mortise exit devices, and it is not a retrofit kit for another manufacturer's device.
4) What finish is the KW033536-40 and will it match my other storefront hardware?
Dark Bronze. That is the common anodized-look finish on aluminum storefront and entrance systems, so it coordinates with dark bronze door and frame hardware already on the building. If the rest of your openings are aluminum or clear anodized, ask for that finish variant rather than this one.
5) Is a rim exit device the right choice for a pair of doors, or do I need vertical rods?
A rim device latches into a strike at the opening edge, so on a single door it works directly, and on a pair it needs a removable mullion or a strike mounted on the inactive leaf. If you need to latch top and bottom with no mullion in the opening, a surface vertical rod device is the type to spec instead. The KW033536-40 is a rim configuration for the Falcon 2090.
6) Is the Kawneer 2090 rim exit device package rated for commercial traffic or is it residential hardware?
Commercial. It is classified as commercial-grade hardware and is used on office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential, and government buildings, which are the traffic levels an egress rim device sees daily.
7) I manage several buildings with Kawneer entrances. Should I order genuine Kawneer service parts or a generic replacement?
For a Falcon 2090 device installed in a Kawneer entrance, the Kawneer service part keeps the mounting and finish consistent with what came on the door originally. That matters most when you are standardizing hardware across a fleet of openings, since mixing aftermarket parts into one device can leave you with mismatched finish and prep from door to door.
