Kawneer KW033542-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Kawneer KW033542-29 removable mullion do on a pair of doors?
The KW033542-29 is a removable mullion assembly that stands in the center of a door pair, giving each rim panic device something to latch into. Because it is removable, you can pull it out to move wide loads or furniture through the full opening, then reset it. It is built for use with the Falcon 2090 rim panic exit device.
2) Will the KW033542-29 mullion work with a surface vertical rod exit device instead of a rim device?
No. A mullion is what makes a rim device usable on a pair of doors, and the KW033542-29 is built for the Falcon 2090 rim panic specifically. Surface vertical rod devices latch at the head and threshold and do not need a center mullion at all, so if your pair runs vertical rods this part has no role in the opening.
3) Is this a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket mullion?
It is an official Kawneer service replacement part, model KW033542-29, sold for commercial door hardware. For property managers and facility crews maintaining existing Kawneer entrances, that means the assembly drops into the original configuration rather than needing frame modification.
4) Do I get the strikes and panic device with the KW033542-29, or just the mullion?
What is sold here is the removable mullion assembly itself, as a service replacement component. The Falcon 2090 rim panic devices for each leaf are separate items, so if you are building a new pair rather than replacing a damaged mullion, order the exit devices alongside it.
5) Is the KW033542-29 mullion black, and will it match dark bronze or anodized storefront?
The finish is Black. On a dark bronze or clear anodized entrance it will read as a distinctly darker element, so if you are matching an existing mullion on adjacent openings, confirm the one you are replacing is also black.
6) Is the KW033542-29 mullion suitable for residential use?
It is classified as commercial hardware. The part is intended for paired egress openings in offices, schools, healthcare corridors, retail and government buildings running Falcon 2090 rim panic devices, not for residential doors.
