Kawneer KW035115 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW035115 strike work on a left-handed door?
No. The KW035115 AR4501-22 long lip flat strike is factory-specified for right-handed applications. On a left-handed opening the lip runs the wrong way and the latch won't engage properly, so you need the left-handed version of the AR4501 strike instead. Confirm the hand of the leaf before you order, since a strike is one of the few parts you cannot flip in the field.
2) What Kawneer frame does the AR4501-22 long lip flat strike fit?
It is built for Kawneer center-hung 4.5 frames running a latchlock. That combination is what the AR4501-22 profile is cut for, so it is not the strike to use on an offset-pivot or butt-hung Kawneer opening, or on a frame of a different depth.
3) Is the KW035115 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a genuine Kawneer service replacement part, made to Kawneer's own specification for its door systems. For property managers and facility crews maintaining a building full of Kawneer entrances, that matters: the prep in the frame was cut for this profile, so an OEM strike drops in without filing or shimming.
4) Why would I use a long lip strike instead of a standard flat strike?
The long lip gives extended engagement, which is what a center-hung leaf needs because the door swings on a centerline pivot and the latch approaches the strike differently than on a butt-hung door. A short-lip flat strike in that same opening can leave the latch riding the edge instead of seating. If your existing strike is a short lip and the door is center-hung with latchlock, the AR4501-22 is the correct profile.
5) Does ordering the KW035115 get me the latchlock too, or just the strike?
Just the strike. The KW035115 is a replacement strike plate only, intended to mate with a latchlock already installed in the door. If the latch itself is worn or the exit device is failing, that gets ordered separately as its own Kawneer service part.
6) Can I standardize on one AR4501 strike across all the Kawneer doors in my building?
Only for the openings that match. The AR4501-22 covers right-handed, center-hung 4.5 frames with latchlock. Left-handed leaves in the same building need the opposite-hand strike, and any opening that isn't center-hung 4.5 takes a different part. Walk the doors and count them by hand and frame type before you buy in quantity.
7) Is this strike rated for commercial storefront traffic or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The KW035115 is commercial-grade door hardware intended for Kawneer aluminum entrance systems in offices, schools, healthcare buildings, government facilities, retail and mixed-use properties. It is not a residential item.
