Kawneer KW038353-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW038353-40 dress cap fit a Kawneer 500 Series door, or is it only for the 350?
It covers both. The KW038353-40 weathered filler dress cap is made for Kawneer 350 and 500 Series doors and fits those openings without modification. If your door is another Kawneer series, this is not the cap for it.
2) What finish does the KW038353-40 come in, and will it match my existing Kawneer dark bronze doors?
Dark Bronze, applied at the factory to match Kawneer door system finishes. That is the only finish this part number carries, so if your entrance is clear anodized or another color you need a different Kawneer part number rather than a finish option on this one.
3) What does a filler dress cap actually do on a Kawneer entrance door?
It is a cover trim, not a working lock component. The weathered filler dress cap closes off and dresses the gap or transition at the door opening so the assembly looks finished. It carries no latching function on its own.
4) Is the KW038353-40 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine Kawneer service part, built to original manufacturer specification. For a property manager maintaining a building full of Kawneer storefront doors, that is the difference between a cap that seats correctly and one that needs shimming or filing.
5) I'm replacing an exit device on a Kawneer 350 door. Do I need this cap too?
Only if the existing cap is damaged or missing. The KW038353-40 is a replacement trim piece that works alongside exit device assemblies on 350/500 Series doors, so it is ordered as a service part when the original is gone, not as a required component of every device swap. Inspect what is on the door before adding it to the order.
6) Is this dress cap rated for commercial storefront use or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The KW038353-40 is a commercial door hardware part, used on office building entrances, retail storefronts, school and healthcare exterior doors, and municipal entries where Kawneer 350/500 systems are installed.
