Kawneer KW048291-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Kawneer KW048291-40 filler dress cap actually used for?
It is a cover piece. The weathered filler dress cap conceals and finishes exposed filler areas on Kawneer 190 Door assemblies so the door looks finished after service work. It is a genuine Kawneer service part, not a latching or locking component, so it does not change how the door operates.
2) Will the KW048291-40 dress cap fit a Kawneer 190 door made after 1993?
No. This cap is engineered for Kawneer 190 Door series units manufactured prior to 1993 and is intended to fit those without modification. If the door was built after 1993, check the date of manufacture before ordering, because the pre-1993 profile is what this part was cut for.
3) What finish does the Kawneer KW048291-40 come in, and will it match my existing bronze storefront doors?
Dark Bronze, applied at the factory to match original Pre-1993 190 Door hardware. If your entrance was originally specified in Kawneer dark bronze, this cap keeps the run consistent across openings. On a clear anodized or black entrance it will stand out, so match the finish of the door it is going on rather than the door next to it.
4) How do I order the right Kawneer filler dress cap for a pre-1993 190 door?
Order by the Kawneer part number KW048291-40, which is the weathered filler dress cap in Dark Bronze for the pre-1993 190 Door series. There are no handing, size or finish options to select with it; the part number alone identifies the item.
5) Does the KW048291-40 dress cap replace the exit device itself?
No. It is a trim and cover piece filed under exit device service parts, so it restores appearance on the 190 Door assembly but provides no latching, panic or locking function. If the exit device hardware itself is failing, you need the device or its working components, not this cap.
6) Is the Kawneer KW048291-40 a commercial part or can it be used residentially?
It is a commercial component within Kawneer's door hardware line, supplied as a replacement part for aluminum entrance systems of the kind used in offices, schools, healthcare buildings and retail storefronts. Residential doors do not use the 190 Door series.
