Kawneer KW048383-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW048383-40 filler dress cap fit a post-1993 350 or 500 Series door?
No. The KW048383-40 weathered filler dress cap is made for pre-1993 Kawneer 350 and 500 Series doors only. Kawneer changed these door systems, so a cap for the legacy profile is not a fit for later production. Check the door's vintage before ordering; if the opening is post-1993 you need the current-generation filler for that series.
2) What does a weathered filler dress cap actually do on a Kawneer door?
It closes out and finishes the gap in the door frame profile, giving the assembly a clean, complete face. It is a cover and closure piece, not a locking or latching component, so it does not change how the door latches or exits.
3) What finish does the Kawneer KW048383-40 come in, and will it match my existing dark bronze storefront doors?
Dark Bronze is the finish, chosen to match the original hardware on the legacy 350/500 Series doors. If your building's Kawneer doors were supplied in dark bronze, this cap blends with them. It is a single-finish part, so there is no other color option to specify.
4) Is the KW048383-40 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is an authentic Kawneer service part, carried under Kawneer's own KW048383-40 designation. For a property manager restoring legacy openings, that matters because the legacy 350/500 profiles are dimension-specific and a generic filler will not seat in the same channel.
5) Do I need to modify the door to install the KW048383-40, or does it drop in?
It is a direct replacement for the pre-1993 350/500 Series profile, so on a matching door it goes in without fabrication. It is a service part rather than a kit, so hardware or fasteners for the job should be confirmed against what came off the door.
6) Is this filler cap rated for commercial use or is it a light-duty residential part?
Commercial. The KW048383-40 is catalogued for commercial door applications, which is where the Kawneer 350 and 500 Series entrances are used: office buildings, schools, healthcare, municipal buildings and retail storefronts.
