Kawneer KW050322-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exactly is the Kawneer KW050322-17 and what does it do on the door?
KW050322-17 is a top offset pivot package from Kawneer, sold as a service replacement part. It mounts at the head of the opening and carries the top of the door on an offset pivot, setting the pivot point off the door face rather than centered in the opening. It is a hardware kit for the door's swing, not part of the exit device's latching mechanism.
2) Do I need a bottom pivot too, or does this Kawneer package cover the whole door?
This is the top pivot only. An offset pivot hung door runs on a top pivot at the head plus a bottom pivot or an offset floor closer at the sill, so plan on sourcing the bottom half separately if you are replacing both ends. The KW050322-17 covers the top offset pivot assembly.
3) Is the KW050322-17 pivot package suitable for a residential entry door?
No. The KW050322-17 is a commercial-grade part, built for aluminum storefront and entrance openings on Kawneer systems in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouse, and government buildings. For a residential hinged door, butt hinges are the normal hardware, not an offset pivot package.
4) Will the Clear Aluminum finish on this Kawneer pivot match my existing storefront doors?
Clear Aluminum is the standard mill-look anodized finish used across commercial aluminum door framing, so the KW050322-17 blends with clear-anodized storefront and entrance systems. If your frames are dark bronze or black anodized, this finish will not match visually, though the pivot is mostly concealed at the head.
5) Is the KW050322-17 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a genuine Kawneer service part, catalogued under Kawneer Service Parts, so it is dimensioned to the original Kawneer prep rather than reverse engineered. That matters on aluminum doors, where pivot hole patterns are cut at the factory and an approximate replacement will not line up.
6) My Kawneer door with a panic device sags and drags at the top. Is a pivot package the fix?
A worn top pivot is a common cause of a sagging or dragging aluminum entrance door, and the KW050322-17 is the Kawneer replacement part for that top offset pivot. Confirm the pivot itself is worn rather than the bottom pivot or a racked frame before ordering, since replacing the top alone will not correct a failed bottom pivot or floor closer.
