Keedex K-BXBEST-93KV – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Keedex gate box come with the lock or cylinder?
No. The K-BXBEST-93KV is the steel box only, prepped for a Best 9K cylindrical lock. You order the 9K lockset and its interchangeable core separately, plus any strike or strike box the gate side needs.
2) What is the Keedex K-BXBEST-93KV made of and can it be welded?
14 gauge steel throughout, which is why it is sold as a weldable box. It is welded directly to the gate frame, so it takes normal MIG or stick work and can be painted or powder coated after install. Steel at that gauge also means no drilling or boring of the gate members themselves.
3) Why use a weldable gate box instead of mounting a lock directly to a gate?
Ornamental and tube-frame gates rarely have enough flat material to bore a cylindrical lock properly. A gate box like the K-BXBEST-93KV gives you a steel enclosure with the Best 9K prep already done, so you weld the box in place and drop the lock in. It also encloses and protects the lock body from weather and tampering, which a surface-mounted lock on an open frame does not.
4) Will a Keedex K-BXBEST-93KV work with a mortise lock or an exit device?
No. This box is cut for a cylindrical lock, specifically the Best 9K. A mortise lock or a rim exit device needs a different Keedex box with the matching prep, so match the box to the exact lock family you are installing.
5) Is the Keedex K-BXBEST-93KV suitable for commercial gate applications?
It is a commercial-duty item, built in 14 gauge steel for perimeter and access gates on commercial and institutional properties. Facilities standardized on Best 9K cylindrical locks can carry the same keyway and core out to gate openings using this box.
