1) What is the Keedex K-BXED-V22 box used for?
The K-BXED-V22 is a weldable steel box that mounts a Von Duprin 22 Series exit device on a gate or a frame that has no door stile to screw into. You weld the box in place and the device and its trim mount to the box. It suits DT, NL, K or L trim configurations. On a metal gate there is nothing to through-bolt, so the box gives the device a flat, solid mounting surface.
2) Will the Keedex K-BXED-V22 work with a Von Duprin 99 or 33A exit device?
No. This box is cut for the Von Duprin 22 Series only. Keedex builds gate boxes model by model against a specific device family, and the prep in the 22 box will not line up with a 99 or 33A chassis. If you are mounting a different series, order the Keedex box built for that series instead.
3) What material is the Keedex gate box for the Von Duprin 22 Series made of?
14 gauge steel. That is heavy enough to weld to a steel gate frame without burning through and to carry the load of an exit device that gets pushed hard every day. It ships as bare steel to be welded, so it needs to be primed and painted after installation for any exterior gate.
4) Do I need one Keedex gate box or two for a pair of gates?
One box per leaf that carries a device. On a single gate with a rim device you need one box for the device side. If both leaves get an exit device, order two. Strike-side mounting on the opposite leaf uses a strike box, not this one.
