1) Which locks does the Keedex K-BXMAR-IQ weldable gate box accept?
The K-BXMAR-IQ is prepped for the Marks IQ (Ique), IEI, Door Guard, Locknetics CM5196 and SDC E72 cylindrical-type locks. It is a cylindrical prep with a 2-3/4 inch backset, so the lock you install has to be a 2-3/4 inch backset cylindrical unit from that group.
2) Does the Keedex gate box come with a lock, or do I order that separately?
The gate box is the weldable steel housing only. It provides the enclosure and the cylindrical prep at a 2-3/4 inch backset; the Marks IQ, IEI, Door Guard, Locknetics CM5196 or SDC E72 lock, plus the strike and any power or wiring for an electrified unit, are ordered separately.
3) Will a 2-3/8 inch backset cylindrical lock work in this Keedex gate box?
No. The K-BXMAR-IQ is drilled for a 2-3/4 inch backset, the standard commercial backset. A 2-3/8 inch lock, the common residential backset, will not line up with the cross-bore and spindle location in this box.
4) What material options does the Keedex K-BXMAR-IQ come in?
Three substrates: 14 gauge steel, .125 aluminum, and 16 gauge stainless steel. Match the box to the gate so you can weld it cleanly, steel box to a steel gate, aluminum to an aluminum gate, and pick stainless for coastal or wash-down exterior work.
5) Which Keedex gate box substrate should I weld to an aluminum gate?
Use the .125 aluminum version. Welding a 14 gauge steel or 16 gauge stainless box to an aluminum frame is not a practical weld, and mixing steel against aluminum outdoors invites galvanic corrosion. Keep the box substrate the same as the gate metal.
6) Is the K-BXMAR-IQ gate box suitable for commercial gate applications?
Yes, it is a commercial-duty item. Gate boxes like this one are welded into a metal gate or fence frame so a standard cylindrical lockset can be mounted on an opening that has no door stile to bore. Common uses are pool enclosures, apartment courtyard gates, and service yard gates.
