1) Will a 2-3/8 inch backset Omnilock fit the Keedex K-BXOMNI-CYL box?
No. The box is prepped at a 2-3/4 inch backset, so the lock you install has to be a 2-3/4 backset cylindrical Omnilock. A 2-3/8 backset chassis will not line up with the cross bore location in the box. Order the lock with the 2-3/4 backset, which is the standard commercial backset anyway.
2) I have a mortise lock on my gate, can I use this Keedex box?
No. This box is cut for a cylindrical chassis, not a mortise case, and the two preps are completely different geometry. If your gate lock is a mortise body you need a Keedex weld box made for a mortise lock instead. Match the box to the exact lock model going into it, because Keedex builds these boxes product-specific rather than universal.
3) Can the Keedex gate box be welded, or does it bolt on?
It welds. The shell is 14 gauge steel, which takes a MIG weld to a steel gate frame without burning through the way thinner sheet does. There are no mounting screws or bolt pattern involved: you cut or position the opening in the frame, set the box, and weld it in.
4) Is this Keedex box suitable for a commercial gate installation?
Yes, it's a commercial-duty part. The 14 gauge steel construction is what makes it appropriate for exterior gates and access-controlled openings where a sheet metal enclosure would deform. It's the type of box a security integrator or fence contractor welds into a swing gate to carry an electronic cylindrical lock.
