The legend reads CAUTION-BURIED ELECTRIC LINE, printed in bold black lettering on a bright red background. Red is the standard identification color for buried electric, so crews digging later can read both the color and the wording before a shovel goes in.
2) Will this caution tape survive being buried in backfill, or is it only for above ground barricading?
It is made for burial. The tape is tough 2.5 mil polyethylene and highly resistant to acids, alkalis and other soil components, so it stays legible in a trench above the conduit or direct burial cable. It works as above ground barricade tape too, but the soil resistance is the reason to choose it over a plain barricade roll.
3) I need tape for a buried gas or water line, not electric. Can I use this roll?
No. This roll prints only CAUTION-BURIED ELECTRIC LINE on red, which is the electric utility color. Using it over gas or water misidentifies the line to the next crew that digs. Order the tape with the correct legend and color for that utility instead.
4) Does buried electric warning tape need adhesive or any hardware to install?
No adhesive and no stakes. It is unprinted-side-plain polyethylene film that gets rolled out flat in the trench above the cable or conduit during backfill, typically a foot or so above the run, then covered. For above ground use you just tie it off between stanchions or fixed points.
