Klein Tools 68460 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What sizes do the Klein Tools open-end wrenches come in?
Seven double-end sizes cover 1/4 inch up through 1 inch, each wrench carrying two different openings: 1/4 and 5/16 (68460), 3/8 and 7/16 (68461), 1/2 and 9/16 (68462), 9/16 and 5/8 (68463), 11/16 and 3/4 (68464), 13/16 and 7/8 (68465), and 15/16 and 1 inch (68466). Note 9/16 appears on two of them, so 68462 and 68463 overlap if you are building a set.
2) Which Klein open-end wrench do I need for a 3/4-inch bolt head?
68464 covers it. That one carries 11/16 inch on one end and 3/4 inch on the other. If your fastener is the next size up, 13/16 or 7/8, go to 68465.
3) Are these Klein open-end wrenches offset, or flat in line with the handle?
Offset. Both ends sit at a 15 degree angle to the handle, which is what lets you get over a raised obstruction or work a nut sitting close to a surface, and it lets you flip the wrench to pick up a new bite in tight quarters.
4) Can I put a pipe on the handle of a Klein open-end wrench for more leverage on a seized nut?
No. Klein states plainly not to extend the handle length, and not to push or hammer the wrench. Cheater bars overload the jaw and the handle was not sized for it. For a frozen fastener use a striking wrench or a breaker bar on a socket instead, and wear approved eye protection either way.
5) Open-end wrench or a box/socket wrench for tightening lugs and conduit locknuts?
An open-end like these is for fasteners you cannot drop a closed ring over, or where you need to slide onto the flats sideways, which is common on conduit locknuts, strut hardware and terminal lugs in a crowded enclosure. It grips only two flats, so for high torque or a rounded-off nut use a box end or a 6-point socket. The 15 degree offset on these helps where a socket and ratchet will not physically fit.
6) Will these wrenches hold up in a damp or outdoor electrical environment?
The wrenches are nickel chrome-plated for corrosion resistance over a forged alloy-steel body, so they handle outdoor panel work, rooftop units and damp vaults better than a bare or black-oxide wrench. Wipe them down after wet work like any plated hand tool.
7) Is each Klein open-end wrench a single size or two?
Two. Each wrench has a different size opening on each end, so a seven-piece buy gives you fourteen openings covering 1/4 inch to 1 inch. That matters for a service van or a tool pouch where you are counting tools rather than sizes.
