Klein Tools 65700 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What sizes do the Klein Tools 3/8-inch drive 6-point sockets come in?
Four SAE sizes: 3/8-inch (65700), 7/16-inch (65701), 1/2-inch (65702) and 9/16-inch (65703). All four take a 3/8-inch square drive, so one ratchet covers the whole run.
2) Will these Klein sockets fit my 1/4-inch or 1/2-inch drive ratchet?
No. These are 3/8-inch square drive sockets only. To run them off a 1/4-inch or 1/2-inch drive ratchet or impact you need a step-up or step-down adapter, which is not included.
3) Can I use these Klein sockets on an impact wrench?
No. These are standard chrome-finish sockets for use with hand socket wrenches, per the product description. Impact work calls for black-oxide impact-rated sockets; chrome sockets can crack under hammering.
4) Are these 6-point or 12-point sockets, and does it matter for rounded nuts?
Six-point. The six flats bear on the flats of the fastener rather than the corners, which is what you want on tight, rusted, or already-rounded hex nuts and bolt heads. A 12-point gives you more engagement angles in a cramped space but is more likely to slip on a worn fastener.
5) Do these sockets meet a recognized standard for tool dimensions and strength?
They are built in conformance to the latest issue of ASME B107.4, the standard covering hand-driven socket wrench attachments. That matters on institutional and government tool specs that call out an ASME-conforming socket.
6) Standard depth or deep sockets?
Standard depth. Good for most nuts and bolt heads where the thread does not protrude far past the nut. If you are backing a nut off a long stud, say a threaded rod hanger or a strut anchor, you want a deep socket instead.
7) Are these electrician's sizes, and do they cover common strut and panel hardware?
Klein lists these under its electrical line, and the size run (3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16 inch) is the band an electrician hits most: 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 strut nuts, panel and enclosure hardware, ground lug bolts. Metric fasteners are not covered by this set.
8) Is a ratchet or extension included when I buy one of these sockets?
No. Each part number is a single loose socket, ordered by size. The ratchet, extensions, and any drive adapters are separate purchases.
9) Will these sockets rust in a service van or on a job site?
Each socket has a chrome finish for lasting protection, which resists corrosion and wipes clean of grease and cutting oil better than a bare steel tool. It is still a hand tool finish, not a coating for permanent outdoor exposure.
