Yes. The control key is not packed with the KSP COMB-206 core, it is ordered separately. Without it you cannot pull the core out of the housing, so if this is the first small format interchangeable core going into a building, put a control key on the same order. If you already run SFIC in the same keyway and have a control key cut, you only need the cores. A control key can be ordered on either the J or the K keyway.

Two keyways, J and K. Those are the only choices on the COMB-206, so match whichever one the rest of your SFIC hardware is already keyed to. Mixing J and K cores in the same building means two separate key systems and two control keys, which is usually not what a property manager wants when standardizing a fleet of doors.

Those are the keyed different groups on the COMB-206. Each number, 1AA through 6AA, is its own key change, so six tenants or six doors that each need a unique key get 1AA, 2AA, 3AA and so on. Order the same number more than once and those cores are keyed alike, which is how you get one key to open a suite of doors. Both the J and K keyway are offered across all six.

Order the individual cores in their own change groups so each door keeps its own key, then add the master key so maintenance carries a single key for the whole set. The master key is a separate line item and, like the cores, is specified in either the J or K keyway. Keep the whole system on one keyway or the master will not operate the odd door out.

With the control key inserted, the core turns and lifts straight out of the housing and a new one drops in, so rekeying a door takes seconds and no disassembly of the lever, cylindrical lock, padlock or exit device trim. The hardware has to be built to accept a small format interchangeable core in the first place; a standard key-in-knob or a mortise cylinder will not take one.
