Kwikset 968DL-26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Kwikset 968DL Delta interior pack work on its own, or do I need an exterior handleset too?
On its own it does nothing. The 968DL Delta is interior trim only, a non-functioning pull for the inside of the door, so you have to buy a matching Kwikset exterior handleset pack separately. Keys come with the exterior pack, not with this one.
2) Can I use the 968DL Delta interior pack on a fire-rated door?
No. Kwikset's optional 1/3 hour UL fire rating covers all functions except the 802, 819 and 502, and the 968DL Delta pack is the interior trim for the 802 handleset. For a fire-rated opening you need a different handleset function.
3) What are the alternatives if I need interior handleset trim but I'm not running a Kwikset 802?
Depends on the exterior handleset you already have, since inside trim is series-specific. Schlage Residential offers the JH59 Broadway lever inside trim for handlesets with a Collins deadbolt thumbturn, rated Grade 3 and listed for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors. On the Weslock side, the 6205 Utica Woodward interior dummy trim covers 1-3/8 to 2 inch doors, and the 1405 interconnected handleset dummy trim covers 1-3/4 to 2 inch. Match the trim to your exterior handleset brand and series, not just to the look.
4) What is the closest equivalent to the Kwikset 968DL Delta interior pack from another brand?
The Weslock 1405 interconnected handleset dummy interior trim is the nearest match in kind: like the Kwikset 968DL Delta pack, it is a dummy-function interior trim for a handleset rather than a working latch. The Weslock 1405 is part of the Traditionale series and fits doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch thick. The Weslock 6205 Utica Woodward interior dummy handleset trim is a second dummy-function option, from the Molten Bronze series, with a 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch door thickness range. Note that Kwikset interior packs are built to mate with Kwikset exterior packs, so a Weslock trim is an equivalent type of part, not a drop-in for an 802 handleset.
5) I need the interior lever on a handleset to actually retract the latch, not just be decorative. What should I use instead of the 968DL Delta pack?
The 968DL Delta pack is dummy function, so the interior lever does not operate a latch. If you need a working interior trim, the Schlage Residential JH59 Broadway lever inside trim for handlesets is entrance function and includes a Collins deadbolt thumbturn; it fits doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick and is Grade 3. Weslock also offers single-cylinder handleset trims: the 2100 Julienne in the Traditionale series is entry function for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, and the 7900 Carlow left-hand trim for Greystone or Rockford is single-cylinder function over the same thickness range.
6) Does the Kwikset 968DL Delta pack include a deadbolt thumbturn like some Schlage interior packs?
The Kwikset 968DL Delta interior pack is a pull-only dummy trim, and its locking action comes from the turn piece on the interior of the lock supplied with the mating Kwikset exterior pack, which is purchased separately. Two Schlage Residential trims include the thumbturn in the interior pack itself: the FC59 Alexandria glass knob interior trim pack with deadbolt thumbturn, and the JH59 Broadway lever inside trim with Collins deadbolt thumbturn. Confirm which side of the assembly supplies the turn piece before ordering so you do not end up with two or none.
7) Can I use a Schlage F59 or FC59 interior pack on a Kwikset 802 handleset?
No. The Kwikset 968DL Delta pack is built as the interior half of a Kwikset Signature Series 802 handleset and pairs with a Kwikset exterior pack. The Schlage F59 Accent lever interior pack is an F Series part and the FC59 Alexandria is an FC Series part, each matched to its own Schlage exterior assembly. They are the same category of part and both dummy function, which makes them look interchangeable, but the spindle and mounting interfaces belong to different systems - keep the interior and exterior halves within one brand and series.
8) Do I have to order a left-hand or right-hand version of the Delta interior pull?
No handing to specify. The Delta interior pack is fully reversible, so the same part works on a left-hand or right-hand swinging door.
9) What finishes can I get the Kwikset 968 Delta interior pack in to match my other doors?
Five finishes: 619 Satin Nickel, 625 Polished Chrome, 626 Satin Chrome, 510 Venetian Bronze, and 605 Polished Brass. Kwikset also calls these 15, 26, 26D, 11P and 3 respectively, so if your existing hardware is marked with the older numbers you can match it directly.
10) Is this Kwikset interior pack strong enough for an apartment or rental entry door?
It is certified ANSI/BHMA Grade 3 and rated residential, which is the residential entry tier, not a commercial-duty lock. For single-family homes and low-traffic apartment entries it is appropriate; for a high-traffic commercial opening you want a Grade 1 or Grade 2 lockset instead.
11) Does the Kwikset 968DL Delta interior pull meet ADA requirements?
Yes. The Delta interior pack meets ADA/ANSI A117.1 requirements, and it is a lever-style handle rather than a knob, which is what ADA operation calls for.
12) How does the door actually lock if the interior pull is non-functioning?
The pull itself does not operate a latch. Locking is handled by a turn piece on the interior side of the lock, paired with the keyed exterior handleset. That gives you the standard entry/office arrangement: key outside, thumbturn inside.
13) I want a knob instead of a lever on the interior of my handleset. What are my options?
The Kwikset 968DL Delta interior pack is a lever trim in the Delta collection, traditional styling. For a knob on the interior of a handleset, the Weslock 6205 Utica Woodward interior dummy handleset trim is a dummy option in the Molten Bronze series for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, and the Schlage Residential FC59 Alexandria glass knob interior trim pack is a Grade 2 dummy trim with a deadbolt thumbturn for doors 1-5/8 inch to 2-3/4 inch.
14) Which handleset interior trims are handed, and which can I stock for both left and right doors?
The Kwikset 968DL Delta interior pack is reversible, so one part covers both left-hand and right-hand doors. The Weslock 7900 Carlow interior single cylinder handleset trim for Greystone or Rockford is supplied left hand, so handing has to be specified at order. If you are standardizing across a building and want to avoid stocking handed pairs, the reversible Kwikset pack and the dummy trims such as the Weslock 1405 and Schlage F59 Accent are the simpler route.
15) What tools do I need to install a Kwikset 968 interior pack?
Just a screwdriver. The Delta interior pack mounts to the existing handleset prep and goes on in minutes with no drilling, assuming your door is already bored for a Kwikset 802 handleset.
16) Is the Delta interior pull a modern or traditional look?
Traditional. The Delta lever sits in Kwikset's traditional design family, so it suits colonial and transitional entries rather than a flat-plate contemporary look. If you want something squarer, the Ladera SQT lever interior pack fits the same 802 handleset.
