Kwikset 968LRLRDTRH-26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Kwikset 968LRL Ladera interior pack work on its own, or do I need an exterior handleset too?
On its own it does nothing. The 968LRL Ladera is interior trim only with a non-functioning lever, so there is no latch, no cylinder and no keys in the box. You pair it with a Kwikset exterior pack from the Signature Series 802 handleset line to get a working entry, and keys come with that exterior half, not this one.
2) Do I have to order the Ladera interior pack in a specific hand for my door?
The Ladera lever trim is fully reversible and works on either a right or left hand door. Both Right Hand and Left Hand are offered as ordering options in each of the four finishes, so pick the one that matches your opening if you want it labeled, but the part itself handles both.
3) Is the Ladera interior pack rated for commercial use in an apartment building corridor?
No. Kwikset lists the 968LRL Ladera as residential and ANSI/BHMA Grade 3, which is the light-duty residential tier. It is fine for unit entry doors in multi-family where the spec allows Grade 3, but for a commercial corridor or a heavier-traffic opening you want Grade 2 or Grade 1 hardware instead.
4) Can I use the 968LRL Ladera pack on a fire-rated door?
Not with an 802 handleset. Kwikset's optional 1/3 hour UL fire rating covers all functions except the 802, 819 and 502, and the Ladera interior pack is built for the Signature Series 802. If the opening needs a fire label, specify a different function or a labeled lockset.
5) What is a comparable interior handleset trim pack from Schlage or Weslock?
On the Schlage side, the F59 Accent lever interior pack is a Grade 2 dummy trim for 1-5/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the JH59 Broadway lever inside trim for handlesets is Grade 3 with a Collins deadbolt thumbturn and fits 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors. From Weslock, the 1405 interconnected handleset dummy interior trim and the 6205 Utica Woodward dummy trim cover 1-3/4 to 2 inch and 1-3/8 to 2 inch doors respectively. The difference that matters: the Kwikset 968LRL Ladera is pull only with no thumbturn, so if your exterior pack needs a deadbolt turn on the inside, the Schlage JH59 or a thumbturn version is the closer match.
6) Does the Ladera interior pack include a deadbolt thumbturn?
No thumbturn. The 968LRL Ladera is a pull-only interior pack, just the lever trim and mounting screws. If you need a turn on the inside for a single cylinder deadbolt, the Schlage JH59 Broadway inside trim ships with a Collins deadbolt thumbturn, and the Schlage FC59 Alexandria interior trim pack includes one as well.
7) What is the closest equivalent to the Kwikset 968LRL Ladera interior pack from another brand?
The Kwikset 968LRL Ladera is a lever interior trim pack with a dummy (non-functioning) function for use with a handleset exterior. The Schlage Residential F59 Accent interior pack is the nearest cross-brand match: it is also a lever interior pack with a dummy function, carries a Grade 2 rating, and fits doors 1-5/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick. The Ladera is Grade 3 and reverses for right hand or left hand doors, so one part covers either handing.
8) What finishes does the Kwikset 968LRL Ladera lever interior pack come in?
Four: 510 Venetian Bronze, 619 Satin Nickel, 625 Polished Chrome and 626 Satin Chrome. If you are matching other Kwikset trim already on the house, those same codes appear on Kwikset's exterior 802 packs, so you can order the pair in one finish.
9) Does the Kwikset Ladera interior lever trim meet ADA requirements?
Yes, the Ladera lever trim meets ADA/ANSI A117.1 requirements, which is the reason to pick a lever over a knob on an accessible unit. Note the lever is a dummy pull, so it does not retract a latch, and the operating force question falls to the exterior pack you mate it with.
10) I want a knob instead of the Ladera lever on my 802 handleset. What are my options?
Kwikset offers the same 968 interior pack in knob styles for the 802 handleset, including Abbey, Hancock, Laurel, Pismo, Aliso, Cove, Polo and Tylo. If you want to stay with a lever but a different look, Ashfield, Commonwealth, Halifax, Katella, Lisbon, Milan, Montreal, Pembroke, Singapore, Tustin, Balboa, Delta, Dorian, Henley, and the Ladera RDT and SQT variants are all in the same 968 family.
11) My door is 2 inches thick. Will the Ladera interior pack work?
For a thick door, look at the Weslock trims instead. The Weslock 1405 interconnected handleset dummy interior trim and the 2100 Julienne interior single cylinder trim are both listed for 1-3/4 to 2 inch doors, and the 6205 Utica Woodward dummy trim covers 1-3/8 to 2 inch. Schlage's FC59 Alexandria glass knob interior trim pack goes to 2-3/4 inches if you need more range than that.
12) What looks like a substitute for the Kwikset 968LRL Ladera interior pack but is not?
Several interior handleset trims share the same shape but are keyed or functioning parts, not dummy trim. The Weslock 7900 Carlow is a left hand single cylinder interior handleset trim for Greystone or Rockford, and the Weslock 2100 Julienne is an entry function interior single cylinder handleset trim, both for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors. The Ladera 968LRL is a dummy pull-only pack that reverses for right or left hand doors, so it is not an operating substitute for either and the Carlow is handed to one side only.
13) What tools do I need to install the Kwikset Ladera interior pack?
A screwdriver. The Ladera interior pack mounts to the exterior 802 handleset through the door, so there is no boring or chiseling as long as the door is already prepped for the handleset.
14) Will the 968LRL Ladera pack match the contemporary hardware already on the rest of my doors?
Kwikset styles the Ladera lever as contemporary, with a squared modern profile rather than a traditional one. If the rest of the house is traditional, the 968 family also carries Abbey, Hancock and Laurel knobs and levers like Ashfield and Pembroke for the same 802 handleset, so you can change style without changing the exterior half.
