Kwikset 968P-26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack work on its own, or do I need the exterior handleset too?
On its own it does nothing. The 968P Polo interior pack is a non-functioning pull/trim only, made to go with a Kwikset Signature Series 802 handleset exterior. You have to buy the Kwikset exterior pack separately, and keys are ordered separately as well. If you want a working latch or deadbolt from this part alone, this is the wrong item.
2) Do I have to order a left-hand or right-hand version of the Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack?
No handing to specify. The Polo interior pack is fully reversible and installs on either a right-hand or left-hand door, so one part number covers both swings.
3) What finishes does the Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack come in?
Five finishes: 510 Venetian Bronze, 619 Satin Nickel, 609 Antique Brass, 625 Polished Chrome, and 626 Satin Chrome. Pick the one that matches the 802 exterior handleset and the rest of the door hardware on the elevation, since the interior trim sits right beside it.
4) Is the Kwikset Polo 968P interior trim ADA compliant and what grade is it?
It meets ADA/ANSI A117.1 requirements and is ANSI/BHMA Grade 3 certified. Grade 3 is the residential tier, and the pack itself is catalogued for residential use, so for a commercial opening with a Grade 1 or 2 spec this will not satisfy the drawing.
5) Is the Polo interior pack a knob or a lever?
Polo is a knob design, round and traditional in styling. If the job calls for a lever inside, Kwikset offers the same 968 interior pack in lever styles for the 802 handleset, including Tustin, Milan, Halifax, Pembroke and Ashfield.
6) I want a lever instead of a knob on the inside of my handleset. What are my options?
The Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack uses a knob-style trim. If you want a lever on the inside, the Schlage Residential F59 Accent Lever Interior Pack is a dummy-function lever trim in the F Series for 1-5/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Schlage Residential JH59 Broadway Lever Inside Trim is an entrance-function lever trim for handlesets with a Collins deadbolt thumbturn, fitting 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. Kwikset also builds 968 interior packs in lever styles such as Tustin, Halifax and Commonwealth for the 802 handlesets.
7) My door is 2 inches thick. Will the Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack work, or is there another dummy handleset trim that covers it?
If you need a dummy-function interior handleset trim rated for a thick door, the Weslock 6205 Utica Woodward Interior Dummy Handleset Trim covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch doors, and the Weslock 1405 Interconnected Handleset Dummy Interior Trim covers 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch. Both are dummy function like the Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack, which is a non-functioning knob trim for Signature Series 802 handlesets and is fully reversible for right- or left-hand doors.
8) For a multi-family property standardizing entry doors, how does the Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack compare with the Schlage F59 and FC59 interior packs on grade?
The Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack is ANSI/BHMA Grade 3 certified and meets ADA/ANSI A117.1 requirements, and it is a residential product. The Schlage Residential F59 Accent and FC59 Alexandria interior packs are both Grade 2, and both are dummy function like the 968P. Door thickness coverage differs: F59 spans 1-5/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch while FC59 spans 1-5/8 inch to 2-3/4 inch, which matters if your doors are not uniform across the property.
9) Is the Weslock 2100 Julienne interior trim a substitute for the Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack?
They are not interchangeable in function. The Weslock 2100 Julienne Interior Single Cylinder Handleset Trim is an entry-function trim in the Traditionale series for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch thick, so it works with a keyed cylinder. The Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack is a dummy-function interior trim - the knob does not operate, and it must be paired with a Kwikset exterior pack for a complete Signature Series 802 setup. Choose the 968P only when the exterior pack carries the operating function.
10) What interior handleset trim should I use if the opening is handed and I need a left-hand single cylinder inside piece?
For a handed left-hand opening with a keyed inside cylinder, the Weslock 7900 Left Hand Carlow Interior Single Cylinder Handleset Trim is built for Greystone or Rockford handlesets in the Molten Bronze series and fits doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch. The Kwikset 968P Polo interior pack takes a different approach - it is reversible and works on either right- or left-hand doors, but it is dummy trim with no cylinder.
11) What tools do I need to install a Kwikset 968 interior pack on an existing 802 handleset?
A screwdriver. The interior pack mounts through the door to the 802 exterior with machine screws, so swapping the inside trim on an existing Signature Series handleset is a minutes-long job with no boring or special tooling.
