LCN 9553IQ-REG2 72 628 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the LCN 9553IQ operate a pair of doors together, or do I need two separate operators?
The 9553IQ Senior Swing is configured for double door simultaneous operation, so one unit drives both leaves of a pair at the same time. That is the difference between the 9553IQ and a single-door Senior Swing configuration: you order one operator for the pair rather than pairing two independent units and trying to sequence them.
2) What side of the door does the LCN 9553IQ mount on?
Push side, surface mounted, with a metal cover over the operator. That means the unit sits on the face of the door or header on the side the traffic pushes against, so you need clear header space and cover clearance on that face. If your opening only allows a pull side installation, this configuration is not the one to order.
3) What power does an LCN Senior Swing 9553IQ automatic operator need at the header?
115VAC. Get a dedicated 115VAC circuit run to the header location before the operator goes up, because this is an electromechanical operator, not a hydraulic or pneumatic one, and it will not run off low voltage from an access control panel. Low voltage wiring still comes in separately for actuators and interlocks.
4) Does the LCN 9553IQ meet ADA requirements for an accessible entrance?
Yes, the 9553IQ is ADA compliant. It is a commercial rated automatic operator, which is how accessible entrances get powered opening at healthcare, education, and government buildings. Confirm your actuator placement and signage separately, since those are part of the accessible route and are not supplied by the operator itself.
5) Is the LCN 9553IQ Buy American Act qualified for a government or federally funded job?
BAA qualified, yes. For federal, state, and municipal work with domestic sourcing language in the spec, the 9553IQ Senior Swing clears that requirement, which is one of the reasons it shows up on government and institutional door schedules.
6) How wide a door will the LCN 9553IQ automatic operator handle?
The 9553IQ is ordered with a 72 inch door width option. Measure each leaf of your pair before ordering, since the door width option is what sizes the operator to the leaf it is driving.
7) What arm comes with the LCN 9553IQ and does it suit my header condition?
It ships with a regular arm, REGARM2, at 2-3/4 inches. A regular arm is the push side standard arm and it needs the header reveal to stay within what that arm length allows. Deep reveals or unusual frame conditions are where an operator arm choice normally changes, so check the reveal at your opening against the 2-3/4 inch regular arm before you commit.
8) What finishes does the LCN 9553IQ Senior Swing cover come in?
Two anodized options: 628 aluminum anodized and 710 dark bronze anodized. 628 is the clear aluminum that matches most storefront and aluminum frame entrances, and 710 is the dark bronze that matches bronze anodized storefront. Pick to match the frame, not the door hardware, since the operator cover sits on the header in the buyer's sightline.
9) Should I use an electromechanical operator like the LCN 9553IQ or a low energy operator on my entrance?
The 9553IQ is a heavy duty electromechanical Senior Swing operator built for high traffic commercial entrances, healthcare, schools, and government buildings. A low energy operator is the lighter duty choice for interior openings and restroom doors where the door only cycles on a push plate and slow opening speeds are acceptable. If your opening is a main entrance carrying constant traffic, or a pair that must move together, the heavy duty Senior Swing is the correct class of operator.
10) Does the LCN 9553IQ need to be adjusted and calibrated after installation?
The Senior Swing uses AdaptivIQ technology and is self adjusting and self calibrating, so the operator learns and corrects its own operation rather than requiring an installer to dial in opening and closing behavior manually. That matters on a double door simultaneous setup, where keeping two leaves in step is the part that normally takes the most field adjustment.
11) I am standardizing automatic operators across a facility. Where does the LCN 9553IQ fit against the rest of the Senior Swing range?
The 9553IQ is the 9550IQ Series double door simultaneous, push side surface mounted configuration within LCN's 2800IQ/9500IQ Senior Swing family. Standardizing on the Senior Swing platform across a building means the same controller and the same AdaptivIQ behavior on every opening, with the model number changing to suit whether the opening is a single or a pair and which side of the door has the mounting space.
