Klein Tools 60189 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Are the Klein Tools 60189 leather work gloves rated for electrical work on live circuits?
No. The Klein 60189 is a general-duty leather work glove, not an electrical insulating glove. It is uninsulated, so it offers no protection against energized conductors. Use it for handling tools, conduit, strut and cable pulling; for live work you need rated rubber insulating gloves with leather protectors.
2) Will these gloves hold up outdoors in wet weather or near heat?
Not really. The 60189 goatskin glove is neither water resistant nor heat resistant, and it has a mesh back for breathability, so water will get through and it is not a glove for hot work, welding, or torch brazing. It is built for dry handling work where grip and dexterity matter.
3) How much impact protection do these gloves actually give on the back of the hand?
The back of the hand and fingers carry molded PVC guards, plus a knuckle strap, so knocks against strut, panel edges and ladder rungs are taken by the guard rather than the knuckle. The palm side has EVA foam padding and a reinforced leather thumb patch for vibration and high-wear areas. Leather shell thickness is 0.09 inch (0.2 cm), so this is a dexterity-first glove, not a heavy gauntlet.
4) What size is the Klein 60189 work glove, and is it unisex?
It is an X-Large, sold as a pair, and sized unisex. If you are standardizing gloves across a crew, the 60189 is the XL in the line, so you would order other sizes under their own model numbers.
5) Are the Klein 60189 gloves latex free for workers with a latex allergy?
Yes. The 60189 contains no latex and is powder free, so it is safe to issue to crew members with a latex sensitivity. The impact guards are PVC, and the body is goatskin leather.
6) Will these gloves stay on when I am working overhead or reaching into a panel?
The cuff closes with hook and loop, so you cinch it at the wrist rather than relying on a knit or elastic band. That keeps debris and insulation fibers out and stops the glove sliding when you reach overhead. There is no spandex stretch back on this model, so the hook and loop strap is how you get the fit.
7) Are these lined gloves warm enough for cold-weather work?
No. The 60189 is unlined and uninsulated, with a mesh back built for airflow, so it will run cold outdoors in winter. For cold-weather trades you want an insulated or lined glove instead.
8) Can these gloves be washed and reissued, or are they disposable?
They are machine washable, which is what makes them workable for an MRO or facilities glove pool: issue, launder, reissue. Goatskin will stiffen somewhat after washing, but the glove is designed for it rather than being a throwaway.
9) How long are the Klein 60189 gloves, and how much does a pair weigh?
Overall length is 9.25 inches (23.5 cm), width 4.5 inches (11.4 cm), height 2 inches (5 cm). Weight is 5.2 oz (147.4 g). That length is a short wrist-cuff glove, not a gauntlet, so it will not cover your forearm.
10) What is the Klein Tools part number and color for the XL leather work glove?
Part number 60189, natural tan with black, sold by the pair in X-Large. That is the number to quote when reordering so you get the same glove across the crew.
