1) What is the difference between the Leviton TWR15-W and TWR20-W receptacles?
Amperage is the only difference between them. TWR15-W is the 15-amp version and TWR20-W is the 20-amp version. Both are white, 125-volt, Industrial grade water-resistant duplex devices in a NEMA 5-15R configuration. Match the device to the branch circuit: a 15-amp circuit takes the TWR15-W, and a 20-amp circuit can take either, though the 20-amp device is what you use when a single receptacle serves a 20-amp circuit.
2) Will a 20-amp plug fit the Leviton TWR20-W receptacle?
No. The TWR20-W is a NEMA 5-15R face, so it accepts standard 15-amp straight blade plugs only. A 20-amp plug has a sideways T-slot blade and needs a 5-20R face. The 20-amp rating here refers to the device's pass-through capacity on a 20-amp circuit, not the slot configuration. If you need to plug in 5-20P cord caps, this is the wrong receptacle.
3) Is this Leviton water-resistant receptacle OK to use outdoors or in a damp location?
The TWR series is built to resist moisture intrusion, which is what makes it suited to exposed or damp areas. It is still a wall device, not an enclosure, so it goes behind a weatherproof cover appropriate to the location: an in-use (bubble) cover for a wet location, a standard weatherproof plate for damp. The device itself handles the moisture exposure; the cover handles the water hitting it.
4) Does this water-resistant Leviton receptacle also provide GFCI protection?
No. The TWR15-W and TWR20-W are straight blade duplex receptacles with water-resistant construction only, with no ground-fault protection built in. Where code requires GFCI at an outdoor, garage, or wet-area outlet, feed it from an upstream GFCI device or breaker, or use a GFCI receptacle instead.
5) Will this Leviton receptacle fit a standard Decora wall plate?
Yes. The TWR duplex receptacle uses Decora styling, so it takes a standard Decora/screwless Decora opening rather than a duplex (figure-eight) plate. If the other outlets in the space are older duplex-style, the plates will not interchange, so plan on Decora plates across the openings you are updating.
6) Is an Industrial grade receptacle worth it over a residential or commercial grade one?
For high-traffic openings, yes. The TWR is built to Leviton's Industrial grade specification, which is the top tier above residential and commercial and is aimed at repeated plug cycles and rough handling. Property managers standardizing multi-family units, hospitality corridors, or shop and back-of-house areas get more service life out of it than a residential spec device. For a low-use bedroom outlet it is more device than the job needs.
7) Can I use this Leviton TWR receptacle on a 120-volt branch circuit?
Yes. The receptacle is rated 125 volts, which is the standard rating for a nominal 120-volt branch circuit. Standard 5-15R equipment loads wire to it normally.
