1) Is the Leviton MS303-DS manual motor controller rated for a 3-phase motor circuit?
Three-pole, so it switches all three ungrounded conductors of a 3-phase motor circuit at once. Rated 600V AC, 30A. If you're feeding a single-phase motor and only need two poles broken, order the 2-pole version, MS302-DSW, instead of the MS303-DS.
2) Can I use a manual motor controller as the disconnecting means at the motor?
That's what it's for. The Leviton MS series manual motor controller gives you a local, manually operated disconnect and on/off control at the point of use, sized 600V AC and 30A, so an electrician can kill the motor at the equipment rather than walking back to the panelboard or MCC. It is a manually switched device, not a magnetic starter, so there is no coil, no remote pushbutton station, and no low-voltage control circuit. If you need remote start/stop or automatic control from a PLC or thermostat, you want a magnetic motor starter instead.
3) Does the Leviton MS303-DS include overload protection for the motor?
No. The MS303-DS is a manual switching device rated 600V AC, 30A. Branch circuit short circuit and ground fault protection still has to come from the fuses or breaker upstream, and any running overload protection has to be provided separately or by the motor's own thermal protector. Don't count this as the motor's overload device.
4) What is the difference between the Leviton MS302-DSW and MS303-DSs?
Pole count is the only choice on the MS series here. MS302-DSW is the 2-pole for single-phase motor loads; MS303-DS is the 3-pole for 3-phase. Both are the same 600V AC, 30A industrial grade manual motor controller in a black housing.
5) I have a 30 amp motor load, is a 30A controller enough?
Cutting it close. The 30A rating on the MS series is the controller's ceiling, so a motor drawing a full 30 amps leaves you no margin for the continuous duty derate most motor circuits are sized to. Check the motor nameplate full load amps and the conductor sizing on the drawing; if the load runs near 30A continuously, step up to a higher-amperage controller rather than running this one at its limit.
