1) Do I have to run a ground pigtail to the Renu RER15 outlet?
Not in a properly grounded metal wallbox. The RER15 has a self-grounding clip that bonds the yoke to the box through the mounting screw, plus a green ground screw if you'd rather land an equipment grounding conductor directly. In a plastic box, or any box you can't confirm is bonded, use the green screw and pigtail it.
2) Is the Leviton Renu RER15 a tamper-resistant receptacle that meets NEC child safety requirements?
Yes. The RER15 has built-in shutters that block a single foreign object from entering a slot, and it meets the National Electrical Code child safety requirement for tamper-resistant receptacles. The device is cULus listed. For dwelling-unit work where TR receptacles are required, this is the version to order; there is no non-TR selection to make on it.
3) Can I use a regular decora wallplate on the Leviton Renu outlet?
No. The Renu RER15 is built for Renu wallplates only, and the plate is a screwless snap-on. A standard decora or toggle-style plate will not fit the face. Order the Renu wallplate separately in a matching or contrasting color when you order the device, or you'll have an outlet you can't trim out.
4) If I want to change the outlet color later, do I have to rewire it?
No rewiring. The Renu face snaps off the device and a new one snaps on, so the color changes while the receptacle stays in the box and the conductors stay landed. The part to order for that is the RKR15 color change kit. For a property manager repainting units or a builder letting buyers pick trim late, that means the electrical work is done once.
5) Can I put the Renu RER15 15 amp outlet on a 20 amp circuit?
Yes, on a multi-outlet 20A branch circuit. A 15A 125V receptacle is permitted on a 20A circuit when two or more receptacles are supplied, which is the normal case in a room. Where a single receptacle sits alone on a dedicated 20A circuit, it has to be a 20A device, and the RER15 is rated 15A, so it isn't the part for that spot.
6) Is the Renu tamper-resistant outlet a GFCI, and can I use it in a kitchen or bathroom?
The RER15 is a straight duplex receptacle, not a GFCI. Tamper resistance and ground-fault protection are different things.
