The GB900PLUS steel gate box is built for the Lockey 2900 series narrow stile keyless locks: the 2900 deadbolt, the 2930 passage knob, the 2950 hook bolt, and the 2985 passage lever. All four mount in the same box, so if you are standardizing a run of gates on 2900 series hardware you can spec one box across every function.
2) Why do I need a gate box at all to put a Lockey keyless lock on a metal gate?
A chain link or tube frame gate has no door leaf to bore, so there is nothing to mount a lock into. The gate box gives the 2900 series lock a solid steel body to sit in and protects the lock mechanism once it is out in the weather on a perimeter gate. It is the mounting body, not the lock itself, so you order the 2900, 2930, 2950 or 2985 separately.
3) I need a gate box that can take a request to exit or gate position switch. Will the Lockey GB900PLUS do that?
No. The GB900PLUS is a plain steel box for the 2900 series mechanical keyless locks, with no switch provision. If the opening needs a switch behind the box, look at the Keedex K-BX95552 weldable box, which comes with a switch on the back. That is the one to spec when the gate ties into access control or an alarm point.
4) Does the GB900PLUS come pre-cut for the lock, or do I have to drill it?
The GB900PLUS is made for the 2900 series specifically, so it is not a blank. If you want a blank weldable box to lay out yourself, for a lock the GB900PLUS was not cut for, the Keedex weldable boxes are the alternative: the K-BX4, the K-BX515175, and the K-BX711150 are all blank, no holes, and you drill them for whatever hardware you are fitting.
5) Can I use the Lockey GB900PLUS on a wood or standard swing door instead of a gate?
It is the wrong part for a normal door. A standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door leaf takes the lock directly through a bored prep, so the box just adds bulk. The GB900PLUS exists for gate frames and narrow stiles where there is no material to bore into. On a conventional door, buy the 2900 series lock alone.
6) What is the difference between the Lockey GB900PLUS and a Keedex weldable gate box?
Two different jobs. The GB900PLUS is a steel box made to the 2900 series pattern, so a 2900, 2930, 2950 or 2985 drops in without layout work. The Keedex boxes (K-BX4, K-BX515175, K-BX711150) are blank weldable shells with no holes, which means they take any lock you are willing to lay out and cut, and they weld to the gate frame. Pick the Lockey if you are running 2900 series hardware; pick a Keedex blank if you are fitting something else or want to weld rather than fasten.
