1) Will the Metallics BFRS21 masonry bit fit a 1/4 inch chuck drill?
Yes. The BFRS21 has a 1/4 inch shank, so it runs in any 1/4 inch or larger three-jaw chuck on a standard corded or cordless drill or hammer drill. It is not an SDS bit, so it will not seat in an SDS-Plus or SDS-Max rotary hammer.
2) What size hole does the Metallics BFRS21 carbide masonry bit drill?
It cuts a 1/2 inch diameter hole. That is the hole size to use for 1/2 inch anchors that call for a matched 1/2 inch carbide bit, such as wedge anchors and sleeve anchors sized by bolt diameter. Check the anchor manufacturer's hole size before drilling, since some shields and screw anchors call for a smaller pilot.
3) Can I use the BFRS21 masonry bit in concrete and block, or is it for brick only?
The BFRS21 is a carbide-tipped masonry bit, which covers concrete, block, brick and mortar when run in hammer mode or on a hammer drill. It is not intended for steel or wood. For deep holes in hard cured concrete or rebar-laden slabs, a rotary hammer with an SDS bit will cut faster than a round-shank bit in a standard drill.
4) What does the fast spiral flute on the Metallics BFRS21 actually do for me?
The fast spiral is a steeper flute that clears dust out of the hole quicker. On 1/2 inch holes in block or concrete that matters, because packed dust is what stalls the bit and burns the carbide tip. It also means less pecking in and out to clear the hole on anchor layouts where you are drilling dozens of holes in a run.
