Metallics BTT12 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size anchor does a 1/2 inch masonry bit drill for?
A 1/2 inch carbide masonry bit like the BTT12 drills the hole for 1/2 inch diameter concrete anchors: wedge anchors, sleeve anchors, drop-in anchors and similar. Anchor diameter matches bit diameter for those types, so a 1/2 inch wedge anchor needs a 1/2 inch hole. Screw type concrete anchors are the exception, since they call out a smaller pilot than their nominal size.
2) Can I use the BTT12 masonry bit for electrical rough-in through concrete block?
That is its usual job. The BTT12 is an 18 inch extra-long 1/2 inch masonry bit carried as an electrical fastening item, used for drilling through block and poured concrete to set 1/2 inch anchors for strut, strap and box mounting, or to get through a wall thicker than a standard bit can reach. Run it in a hammer drill; the 3/8 inch round shank fits a standard chuck.
3) Is the Metallics BTT12 sold individually or in a multi-pack?
One bit per order. The BTT12 ships as a single piece in a pouch, so buy quantity by the piece rather than expecting a boxed set or assortment.
4) Will a 1/2 inch masonry bit work in brick and stone as well as concrete?
Masonry bits of this type cut brick, block, stone and poured concrete. What they are not for is steel or wood, and they will not survive drilling rebar. If the BTT12 stops advancing mid hole in concrete, you have likely hit reinforcing steel, and you need a rebar cutter bit rather than more pressure on this one.
