Steel City SSF-CR1-CV – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What's the difference between the Steel City SSF-CR1 and SSF-CR1-CV cable clips?
Mounting target is the only difference. The SSF-CR1 attaches to a stud, while the SSF-CR1-CV is the version that clips to an acoustical tee grid member. Pick the CV if you are running MC/AC cable above a suspended acoustical ceiling and supporting off the tee; pick the plain CR1 when the cable is being secured to framing.
2) Can I use the Steel City MC/AC cable clip to support cable off a drop ceiling T-bar?
Yes, with the right version. The SSF-CR1-CV is built to clip onto an acoustical tee, so it supports MC or AC cable directly off the ceiling grid instead of requiring a separate hanger wire or strut run. The stud version will not attach to a tee.
3) Do I need screws or anchors to install the Steel City MC/AC cable clip?
No separate fasteners. Both versions are clip-on supports: the SSF-CR1-CV snaps to the acoustical tee and the SSF-CR1 attaches to the stud, so the cable is secured without drilling or anchoring. That is the point of the part on ceiling grid work where you cannot penetrate the tee.
4) Are Steel City SSF-CR1 cable clips sold in boxes or individually?
They are sold each, so you order the exact count you need rather than a fixed carton. On a tenant fit-out where you are clipping MC runs at every few feet along the grid, count your drops and spacing to get a quantity.
