Medeco 33600007 X4 KeyMark Small Format Interchangeable Core (SFIC) Extended Plug Head, 8E Keyway

Medeco® X4 Small Format Interchangeable Cores (SFIC) provide utility patented key control for applications that don't require a UL listed cylinder. Designed to allow the user to instantaneously remove and replace cores through the use of a control key, Medeco® X4 cores provide the ultimate in convenience.

Medeco® X4 is well suited for facilities with high turnover of employees, such as fast food restaurants, convenience stores, and other similar businesses. Medeco® X4 is also suitable for apartments, office buildings, schools, and hospitals where strict control over key duplication is required.

Medeco® SFIC products can be ordered with a variety of different cylinder technologies. To compare the mechanical features, see the below chart.

Features

  • Cylinders can quickly and easily be changed by non-technical personal by using a special control key which will remove the core from the lock housing. A core with a new combination can then be inserted and the lock will then effectively be "re-keyed". All of this can be done without having to take the lock apart which reduces the expense of calling outside service personnel to perform routine lock "re-keys".
  • Solid brass construction for excellent durability
  • Spool shaped top and bottom pins add a measure of pick resistance
  • Solid nickel silver bottom pins increase wear resistance
  • Individual pin chamber caps provide for ease of servicing
  • Locks can be keyed alike, keyed different, or master keyed depending on your specific needs.

Applications

  • Provides a key control retrofit for other manufacturers SFIC products in use in a variety of facilities.

Medeco 33600007K-26-8ED – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Medeco X4 KeyMark small format core drop into my existing Best-style SFIC housings?
The X4 KeyMark core is a small format interchangeable core built as a key control retrofit for other manufacturers' SFIC products already in service, so it goes into the standard SFIC figure-8 housings those cores came out of. Medeco also lists it as Schlage compatible. You pull the old core with its control key and drop the KeyMark core in; the housing, lock body and prep stay as they are.
2) What is the difference between ordering the Medeco X4 core pinned versus sub-assembled?
Pinned means the core arrives combinated and ready to install, cut to the keying you specify. Sub-assembled means it ships as a core body without the final pinning, for a locksmith or in-house shop that pins and combinates to their own KeyMark system on site. Both choices are offered in 6 pin and 7 pin, in 606 satin brass and 626 satin chrome. If you have no pinning kit and no KeyMark keying machine, order pinned.
3) Should I order the 6 pin or the 7 pin Medeco X4 KeyMark core?
Match the pin count to the SFIC system you already run. 6 pin is the common commercial small format standard; 7 pin gives more chambers, which matters when a masterkey system has to expand across a large facility without running out of change keys. Both are offered on the X4 KeyMark core in 606 satin brass and 626 satin chrome, pinned or sub-assembled. Mixing pin counts inside one master system is what forces a rekey later, so follow whatever the rest of the building is on.
4) Can maintenance staff rekey these Medeco cores without a locksmith?
That is the point of an interchangeable core. A control key removes the core from the lock housing and a core with a new combination goes in, so a non-technical person can effectively rekey the opening without taking the lock apart or calling a service call out. What they cannot do is cut new KeyMark keys, because the keyway is utility patented and duplication is restricted. Plan on keeping a small stock of pinned cores on hand for turnover.
5) What does the 8E keyway mean for keying a Medeco X4 core into my building?
8E is the specific KeyMark keyway this core is cut for, so every key and every other core in the system has to be on that same keyway to work together. Cores can be keyed alike, keyed different, or master keyed within it. If your existing KeyMark system runs a different keyway, an 8E core will not accept those keys, so pull one of your current keys and confirm the keyway stamp before you order a batch.
6) Is a Medeco X4 KeyMark core tough enough for a high traffic apartment or school entry?
Grade 1, heavy duty, commercial rated. The core is solid brass, with spool shaped top and bottom pins for pick resistance and solid nickel silver bottom pins to slow wear at the shear line. Individual pin chamber caps mean a shop can service one chamber rather than scrap the core. Medeco calls out apartments, office buildings, schools and hospitals as target applications, along with businesses with high employee turnover.
7) What is an extended plug head on an SFIC core and when do I need one?
The extended plug head is a longer plug face on the core, used where the lock or housing sets the core back from the finished surface so a standard plug would sit recessed and the key would not reach cleanly. Ordering the standard head into an opening that needs the extended version leaves the key face buried; ordering extended where it is not needed leaves the plug proud. Match it to what came out of the housing.
8) Do I need a Medeco control key to install these interchangeable cores?
Yes, a control key is required to remove and insert the core in the housing, and it is a separate key from the operating key. It is what lets a property manager swap a core in seconds after a tenant or employee leaves. Order or confirm you hold the control key for your KeyMark system before the cores arrive, otherwise the cores sit in a box.
9) Which finish should I pick to match the rest of my door hardware, 606 or 626?
626 satin chrome is the standard commercial finish and matches the satin chrome levers, exits and cylinders on most modern office, school and multi family openings. 606 satin brass is the match where the existing hardware is brushed brass. Only the visible plug face of the core shows once it is in the housing, so the match matters less than on a lever, but both finishes are available across all pin counts and both pinning choices.
