1) Does the Medeco XT IPD replace the discontinued EA-100158 Remote Programmer?
Yes. The IPD is a direct drop-in replacement for the original Remote Programmer, EA-100158, which is discontinued. If you already run an XT system that was programmed with the old Remote Programmer, the IPD takes its place at the same point in the workflow and updates XT keys through the Keyport interface.
2) How do I mount a Medeco XT IPD unit, wall or desktop?
Three configurations are sold: Standard, Desktop Mount, and Wall Mount. Pick Desktop Mount if the unit sits on a counter at a guard station or facilities office, Wall Mount if key holders will update at a fixed point near an entrance. The enclosure also has VESA mounting capability and cable knock-outs, so a wall bracket and concealed cable routing are both workable. The mount choice is made when you order, not changed by a setting.
3) What do I need to run at the IPD location, network and power?
Two connections: a CAT 5 network drop and USB-C power. The power supply is included in this bundle, so the site work is a network run and an outlet within reach of the supply cable. The IPD needs the network connection to reach a web-hosted XT system for key programming, recurring validations, and audit data collection.
4) Can key holders update their own Medeco XT keys without an administrator on site?
That is the point of the IPD. On a web-hosted XT system, the administrator sets the update and the key holder performs it at the IPD anywhere a network connection is available. The 7 inch capacitive touchscreen reports back whether the key update completed, the battery charge status, any key errors, and network connection status, so the holder knows the key is current without calling anyone.
5) How much wall or counter space does the Medeco XT IPD need?
The IPD measures 10.40 x 1.80 x 4.86 inches, so it takes up roughly the footprint of a small tablet in a metal housing. Plan clearance for the cable knock-outs and the internal CAT 5 and USB-C connections, which run behind the unit rather than out the side.
6) Can I require a PIN at the IPD before a key gets updated?
Yes. The IPD accepts an optional four to eight digit personal identification number for secondary user authentication, which is the setting facilities in higher security environments use so a lost key alone cannot be revalidated at the device. It is optional, so sites that do not want the extra step can leave it off.
7) Does the IPD lock or unlock doors, or is it just for programming keys?
It does neither at the door. The IPD is an identification and programming device: it writes updates to Medeco XT keys through its programming port and collects audit data from them. Access itself stays with the XT keys and cylinders. Ordering an IPD does not get you any door hardware, and one IPD can serve many key holders.
8) Do I need to buy a separate power supply for the Medeco XT IPD?
No. This is the IPD base unit bundled with its power supply, connecting over USB-C. You are not sourcing a transformer separately. What you do still need on site is the CAT 5 network drop.
9) Is the Medeco XT IPD meant for commercial installations or home use?
Commercial. It is an administration device for Medeco XT intelligent key systems, the kind of deployment you see across multi-building campuses, utilities, healthcare, and property portfolios where keys are audited and revalidated on a schedule. There is no residential version of the unit.
10) What is inside the Medeco XT IPD, and can our IT department support it?
It runs a Linux OS on a Raspberry Pi 4 with 2 GB of RAM and a 32 GB SD card, in a metal enclosure with a 7 inch touchscreen. Networking is wired CAT 5. It also supports local admin management, so setup and administration can be done at the unit itself rather than only through the hosted system.
