1) Does the Milbank U4363 meter socket include a main breaker or disconnect?
No. The U4363 is a meter socket only, with no main breaker and no breaker positions in the can. It has one meter position, so you need a separate service disconnect downstream (or a utility-approved arrangement) to complete the service. If you want metering and the main device in one enclosure, you want a meter main combination instead.
2) What wire sizes will land in the Milbank U4363 320A socket, line and load side?
Line side takes 4 AWG through 600 kcmil, or two conductors of 1/0 AWG through 250 kcmil per phase. Load side is two conductors of 6 AWG through 350 kcmil. That load-side double lug is what lets you feed two disconnects or run parallel conductors off a 320A continuous service. Check your conductor size against those ranges before you pull.
3) Can the Milbank U4363 be mounted outdoors on an exterior wall?
Yes. It is a surface mount enclosure with a Type 3R rating and G90 galvanized steel with a powder coat finish, so it is built for outdoor wall mounting and rain exposure. It is UL Listed. Cable entry works for either an overhead drop or an underground lateral.
4) What is the difference between the U4363-R and U4363-X versions of this Milbank socket?
It comes down to the top of the can. The -R is furnished with the large hub opening left open, which is what you want when you are landing a weatherhead or a hub fitting for an overhead service. The -X ships with a large closing plate covering that opening, the normal choice for an underground lateral entering the bottom. Everything else, the 320A continuous rating, lever bypass and single meter position, is the same.
5) Which Milbank U4363 option do I order if my utility is Ameren or requires CECHA approval?
Two of the U4363 builds are utility-specific. The U4363-X-QG-CECHA carries CECHA approval with a large closing plate and quadplex ground. For Ameren, the U4363-X-QG-K3-K2-5T6-AMS is the Ameren approved build, also closing plate and quadplex ground, with double connector lugs. Order the one your serving utility has on its approved list, because the meter department will reject a socket that is not.
6) Is the Milbank U4363 socket suitable for a 3-phase service?
No. This is a single phase socket, one meter position, rated 600V AC at 60 Hz. For three phase metering you need a different socket configured for that service. Single phase 320A continuous is the classic 400A-class residential and light commercial service application.
7) What does the lever bypass on this 320A Milbank socket actually do for me?
The lever bypass lets a meter tech shunt current around the meter socket jaws so the meter can be pulled and swapped while the load stays energized. For a commercial building, a multi-unit property or anything where you cannot kill power to change a meter, that is the reason to spec a bypass socket over a plain one. Many utilities require bypass at 320A class service anyway.
8) How much wall space does the Milbank U4363 meter socket need?

Only on one build. The U4363-X-HSP is furnished with a stainless steel hasp, which is the one to order if the property owner or utility wants the cover padlockable. The other U4363 options do not carry the hasp designation.
11) What is the quadplex ground option on the U4363 and when do I need it?
The QG builds, such as the U4363-X-QG, are furnished with a quadplex ground connector instead of the standard ground. That gives you multiple ground and neutral terminations in the can, which utilities often require where a grounding electrode conductor, a bonding jumper and other conductors all have to land. If your utility spec calls out quadplex ground, order a QG version rather than the standard-ground U4363-R or -X.
12) Which Milbank U4363 build has double connector lugs, and why would I want them?
The U4363-X-QG-K3-K2 comes with double connector lugs plus the quadplex ground and closing plate. Double lugs matter when you are feeding two separate disconnects from one 320A service, or running paralleled load conductors, which the two 6 AWG to 350 kcmil load side range already supports.
