Milbank U4769-O – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Milbank U4769-O current transformer enclosure be installed outdoors?
Yes. The U4769-O carries a NEMA Type 3R rating, so it is built for outdoor wall mounting where rain, sleet and ice are a factor. Construction is G90 galvanized steel with a powder coat finish in ANSI 61 Grey, which is the usual utility and commercial metering gear color. It mounts to a wall, not a pad or pole.
2) What are the actual dimensions of the Milbank U4769-O CT enclosure, and will it fit my wall space?
The U4769-O measures 14L x 32W x 54H inches: 54 inches high, 32 inches wide, and 14 inches deep off the wall. Lay that out on the wall before you set anchors, and remember the single door swings out of the 32 inch width, so you need working clearance in front per your local code.
3) Does the Milbank U4769-O come with knockouts for conduit entry?
No knockouts. The U4769-O ships blank, so the installing electrician punches or hole-saws the entries where the service conduit actually lands. That is normal on CT cabinets, since conduit size and position vary by service, but it does mean budgeting time for the punch work and using weatherproof fittings on any top or side penetration to keep the 3R rating intact.
4) What is included inside the Milbank CT cabinet for mounting the current transformers?
Two things come with it. There is a provision for a current transformer mounting rack, and a wood back panel is included as a mounting surface for components. The CTs themselves, the rack hardware, and any metering wiring are separate.
5) Is this Milbank enclosure a meter socket or just the CT housing?
It is the current transformer housing only. The U4769-O is a CT cabinet, so it holds the transformers and their mounting rack; the meter itself sits in a separate meter socket fed from the cabinet. Order the socket and the CTs alongside it.
6) Is the Milbank U4769-O UL Listed for utility metering work?
The U4769-O is UL Listed as an electrical enclosure. Utilities also maintain their own approved-equipment lists for CT cabinets, so on a service that the POCO has to inspect and seal, check the enclosure against their accepted list before you set it.
7) How does the door on the Milbank U4769-O open and can it be sealed by the utility?
It is a single door with a lift-off front hasp. The hasp is what the utility runs its seal or a padlock through, and the lift-off design lets you take the door completely off during rough-in so you are not working around it while landing conduit and CTs.
8) What model number do I order for a 32 x 54 x 14 Milbank CT enclosure?
Milbank U4769-O is the catalog number for the 32 inch wide by 54 inch high by 14 inch deep NEMA 3R current transformer cabinet with the wood back panel. Milbank groups it under its CTEN current transformer enclosure family.
9) Will a NEMA 3R CT cabinet hold up in a coastal or washdown environment?
A Type 3R enclosure is rated against falling rain, sleet and ice, not against directed hose spray or heavy corrosive exposure. The U4769-O is G90 galvanized steel with powder coat, which handles normal outdoor commercial and light industrial service well. For washdown areas or aggressive salt exposure, spec a higher NEMA type or a stainless cabinet instead.
