The dark grey PVC socket flange features a one-piece webbed design and a female socket connection. Chemtrol® fittings connect PVC piping lengths together with solvent cementing, threading or flanging to create a highly reliable, leak-free system. Please refer to Chemtrol technical data sheets, chemical resistance guides and catalogs for engineering and installation information. PVC Schedule 80 has the highest long-term hydrostatic strength of any other major thermoplastic material used for piping. Chemtrol® PVC fittings are lightweight, easy to install, maintenance-free, and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. Chemtrol® premium line of plastic fittings is backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Because Chemtrol® is a NIBCO brand the flow-control fittings are unsurpassed in quality, performance and longevity.

Nibco CA23060 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Nibco 4551-W PVC flange bolt up to my existing Class 150 metal flange?
Yes. The 4551-W socket flange is drilled to ANSI B16.5 Class 150 bolt pattern, so it mates with any Class 150 companion flange on the same nominal size. The pipe side is a plain socket (S) that solvent cements to Schedule 80 PVC pipe, so you are cementing on one side and bolting on the other. Sizes run 2, 3, 4 and 6 inch.
2) What is the temperature limit on a Chemtrol PVC Schedule 80 socket flange?
140 degrees F is the maximum service temperature. That rules it out for hot water lines and for hot process streams. Keep it on ambient and cold service: cold water, chemical feed, irrigation and industrial cold lines.
3) Can I use a PVC Schedule 80 flange on a compressed air line?
No. The 4551-W is not to be used or tested with compressed air or other gases. That includes pressure testing, so hydrostatic test only. If your line is air or gas service, this fitting is the wrong material family entirely.
4) Is the Nibco 4551-W flange approved for potable water?
It carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 listings and is a lead-free application fitting, which is what a potable water spec asks for. It also meets ASTM F1970.
5) Should I use a socket flange or a threaded flange on my PVC line?
Socket, like the 4551-W, is the stronger joint: it solvent cements to the pipe OD and there is no thread to crack or weep. Choose a threaded (FIPT) flange only when you have to break the connection later or you are transitioning to a threaded metal nipple. On Schedule 80 the socket version is the default for a permanent flanged break at a pump, valve or tank nozzle.
6) Does the Nibco 4551-W come with a gasket and bolts?
The 4551-W is the flange body only, a one-piece webbed PVC casting. Gasket, bolts, nuts and washers are separate and you size them to the ANSI B16.5 Class 150 pattern for your nominal size. Plan on solvent cement and primer for the socket joint as well.
7) Will PVC hold up in a corrosive chemical line better than metal pipe?
PVC Schedule 80 will not rust, scale, pit or corrode, which is why it goes into chemical feed and industrial water where steel fails. It also carries the highest long term hydrostatic strength of the major thermoplastics used for piping. Check the specific chemical against Chemtrol's chemical resistance data before you commit, and keep the 140 degree F ceiling in mind.
8) Why is this PVC flange dark grey instead of white?
Dark grey is the Schedule 80 color convention; white PVC is normally Schedule 40 DWV or potable line. If your existing run is dark grey Sch 80, the 4551-W matches it. Note the color is a convention, not the spec, so confirm the schedule on the pipe print itself.
9) What does the one-piece webbed design on the Chemtrol 4551-W actually do for me?
The webs are ribs cast between the hub and the flange face in a single piece, so there is no separate ring or joint to fail when you pull the bolts up. It resists the bending load a bolted joint puts on the hub, which is where a plain flat PVC flange tends to crack. Still tighten in a star pattern and do not overtorque.
10) Can I use the 4551-W flange on an irrigation main?
Yes, irrigation is a listed system use along with commercial plumbing and industrial service. For a buried irrigation main the flange gives you a bolted break at a valve or pump without a union, and the solvent cemented socket joint is the sealing side.
