1) Can I use this PVC blind flange to air test a line?
No. Chemtrol PVC fittings are not to be used or tested with compressed air or other gases. Hydrostatic test only. Using a PVC blind flange as an air test cap is how people get hurt.
2) Is the Nibco 4519-W blind flange approved for potable water?
It is listed to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and carries a lead-free application designation, which covers potable water service. It also meets ASTM F1970. System uses include commercial plumbing, industrial, and irrigation.
3) Do bolts and a gasket come with the 4519-W blind flange?
No. The 4519-W is the PVC blind flange only. You supply the gasket and the bolt set sized to the ANSI B16.5 Class 150 pattern for your pipe size. On plastic flanges, use flat washers under both the bolt head and nut and tighten in a cross pattern to an even torque so you don't crack the flange face.
4) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 4519-W PVC blind flange come in?
Four sizes: 2 inch (CA16816), 3 inch (CA16819), 4 inch (CA16820), and 6 inch (CA16825). Order by the nominal size of the flange you are capping off, not by the bolt count.
5) What is the maximum temperature for the Chemtrol PVC Schedule 80 blind flange?
140 degrees F maximum service temperature. Above that, PVC loses pressure rating fast, so hot process lines or hot water returns need a different material. Note also that PVC pressure ratings de-rate as temperature rises toward that 140 F ceiling.
6) Should I use a blind flange or a PVC cap to close off a Schedule 80 line?
Use the 4519-W blind flange where you want the end removable, such as a cleanout point, a future tie-in, or a vessel or filter access port. It bolts to a mating ANSI B16.5 Class 150 flange and comes off with a wrench. A solvent-cemented cap is cheaper and lower profile but permanent, you cut it off to reopen the line.
7) What is the webbed one-piece design on this blind flange for?
The web is the reinforcing ribbing molded between the hub and the flange ring in a single piece, which stiffens the flange against bolt-up and bending loads. Schedule 80 PVC already has the highest long-term hydrostatic strength of the major thermoplastic piping materials, and it won't rust, scale, pit or corrode.
