1) Will the Nibco 5119-W blind flange bolt up to my existing ANSI 150 lb flange?
Yes. The 5119-W blind flange has flanged end connections compatible with ANSI B16.5 Class 150 bolt patterns, so it mates to standard 150 lb drilled companion flanges in 2, 3, 4 and 6 inch sizes. Use a full-face gasket and torque the bolts in a cross pattern to avoid cracking the CPVC.
2) What is the maximum temperature for a Corzan CPVC Schedule 80 blind flange?
Maximum service temperature is 210 F. That is the headroom CPVC gives you over PVC, which is why Corzan Schedule 80 gets specified on hot process and hot water lines. Pressure rating derates as temperature climbs, so size the system from the Chemtrol technical data for the operating temperature you actually run.
3) Is this blind flange socket weld or threaded?
Socket weld on the pipe side. The 5119-W is solvent cemented to Schedule 80 CPVC pipe, not threaded, so you need CPVC primer and CPVC solvent cement rated for the pipe size. Do not substitute PVC cement. If your line is threaded, you need a threaded-style flange instead.
4) Can I use this CPVC flange on a potable water system?
Yes. The Chemtrol Corzan CPVC blind flange is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and is listed as a lead-free application, which is what a potable water spec calls for. It also carries ASTM F1970 for excess flow and temperature performance.
5) Can I pressure test this CPVC flange with compressed air?
No. Chemtrol CPVC fittings are not to be used or tested with compressed air or other gases. Hydrostatic test only. Air testing thermoplastic pressure fittings risks sudden brittle failure, and it voids the manufacturer's use instructions.
6) Wait, a blind flange with a socket? How does this actually get used?
The 5119-W is catalogued with a blind plastic end connection, meaning the face is closed off to dead-end a flanged connection or cap a vessel or header nozzle. The socket weld reference covers the CPVC joining method used across the Chemtrol Schedule 80 flange line. Practically, you bolt the blind face to a mating Class 150 flange to close the run, and unbolt it later for access or future tie-in, which is the advantage over solvent cementing a cap on.
