1) Will the Nibco 5151-H-3 CPVC flange bolt up to a metal ANSI Class 150 flange?
Yes. The 5151-H-3 flange face and bolt pattern match ANSI B16.5 Class 150, so it mates with cast iron, steel or bronze Class 150 flanges as well as other plastic Class 150 flanges. Use a full-face gasket and tighten bolts in a cross pattern to avoid cracking the CPVC hub.
2) Is the pipe side of the Nibco 5151-H-3 flange socket or threaded?
Threaded, not socket. The pipe side is a female NPT thread, so it screws onto male-threaded Schedule 80 pipe or a male adapter. No solvent cement is used on this connection. If your run is plain-end pipe, you need a socket-style CPVC flange instead.
3) How hot can a Corzan CPVC Schedule 80 flange run?
Maximum service temperature is 210 F, which is why CPVC gets specified over PVC on hot water and heated process lines. Pressure rating falls off as temperature climbs, so derate against the Chemtrol temperature/pressure data for the size you are using.
4) Can I use this CPVC flange on a compressed air line?
No. Chemtrol CPVC fittings are for liquid service only, and the instruction is explicit: do not use or test with compressed air or other gases. That includes pressure testing, hydrostatic test only. For air service use a metallic system.
5) Is the Nibco 5151-H-3 flange approved for potable water?
It is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and listed as a lead-free application, so it is acceptable for potable water service. It also carries ASTM F1970 for pressure fittings.
6) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 5151-H-3 Corzan CPVC thread flange come in?
Nine sizes, 1/2 inch through 4 inch: 1/2 (CB19250), 3/4 (CB19300), 1 (CB19350), 1-1/4 (CB19400), 1-1/2 (CB19450), 2 (CB19500), 2-1/2 (CB19550), 3 (CB19600) and 4 inch (CB19650). Order by the nominal pipe size of the line it threads onto.
7) Why use a flange here instead of just threading or cementing the joint?
A flange gives you a bolted break in the line. Thread or cement the rest of the run, and put a flange pair where you need to pull a pump, valve or strainer for service without cutting pipe. This one threads on with female NPT, so it can be backed off and re-made if needed, unlike a solvent-cemented socket.
8) Is the Nibco 5151-H-3 a one-piece flange or a two-part van stone style?
One-piece solid design. The hub and flange ring are a single molding, so the ring does not rotate for bolt hole alignment the way a van stone flange does. Plan the thread-on orientation so your bolt holes line up with the mating flange.
9) Will this grey CPVC flange match the rest of my Chemtrol Schedule 80 system?
It is light grey Corzan CPVC, Schedule 80, the standard Chemtrol CPVC color and wall, so it blends with existing grey CPVC Sch 80 pipe and fittings. Note that grey CPVC and dark grey PVC Schedule 80 are different materials, so do not assume a visual match means the same resin.
