The CPVC-CTS transitional bushing features a male spigot IPS x female socket CTS connection and provides a means for transitioning from an iron pipe size solvent weld connection to a copper tube size solvent weld connection while reducing the size of the line. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) has proven to be an excellent material for hot corrosive liquids, hot and cold water distribution, and similar applications above the temperature range of PVC. CPVC will not rust, pit, scale or corrode. CPVC fittings are easy to install and are joined by solvent cementing or threading. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry. FlowGuard Gold® is a registered trademark of The Lubrizol Corporation.

Nibco M177750 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the Nibco 4718-T transition bushing actually connect, IPS to CTS?
The 4718-T is a CPVC transition bushing with a male spigot on the IPS side and a female socket on the CTS side, so it takes an iron pipe size solvent weld line down into a copper tube size CPVC line. Both ends are solvent weld, not threaded. The IPS spigot drops into an IPS socket fitting, and CPVC CTS pipe cements into the CTS socket.
2) Can I run hot water through a CPVC transition bushing, and how hot?
Yes, up to 180 degrees F maximum service temperature. CPVC is the material used above the range where PVC gives up, which is why it goes into hot and cold potable water distribution rather than PVC. It will not rust, pit, scale or corrode.
3) Is the Nibco 4718-T bushing lead-free and OK for potable water?
Lead-free, and NSF U.P. certified for potable use. That covers it for both commercial and residential plumbing systems, which matters if you are specifying to a facility standard.
4) Can I use this CPVC bushing on a compressed air line?
No. The 4718-T transition bushing is not for use with compressed air or other gases, full stop. It is a water-service fitting. Using CPVC on compressed air is a safety problem, not a performance one.
5) What sizes does the Nibco 4718-T CPVC bushing come in?
Four sizes: 1 inch, 1-1/4 inch, 1-1/2 inch and 2 inch. The part numbers run M177750 for the 1 inch, M177880 for 1-1/4, M178050 for 1-1/2 and M178300 for the 2 inch. Note that IPS and CTS of the same nominal call-out are not the same outside diameter, which is the whole reason this bushing exists.
6) Do I glue this bushing or thread it in?
Solvent cement, both ends. The IPS spigot cements into the socket it enters and the CTS side takes CPVC pipe cemented into it. Use CPVC solvent cement, and follow Nibco's plastic fittings installation instructions for cure times before pressurizing.
7) Why is my CPVC fitting tan and the pipe I have is a different color?
Tan is the standard color for this Nibco CPVC fitting. Tan CPVC is the CTS potable water line, so if the pipe on the job is tan CPVC you are on the right system. If what you have is white PVC, this is the wrong fitting for that pipe, PVC and CPVC are not interchangeable and PVC will not take the 180 degree service.
8) Does this bushing reduce the pipe size or just change the connection type?
Both. It is a transition bushing and a straight size bushing, so it moves you from an IPS solvent weld connection to a CTS solvent weld connection while reducing the size of the line at the same time. If you only need to change pipe systems without a size change, this is not the fitting for that job.
