The CPVC-CTS compression fitting features a male spigot connection. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) has proven to be an excellent material for hot corrosive liquids, hot and cold water distribution, and similar applications above the temperature range of PVC. CPVC will not rust, pit, scale or corrode. CPVC fittings are easy to install and are joined by solvent cementing or threading. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry. FlowGuard Gold® is a registered trademark of The Lubrizol Corporation.

Nibco M230000 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I use this Nibco CPVC fitting on a hot water line?
Yes. CPVC handles hot and cold water distribution, and this fitting carries a maximum service temperature of 180 degrees F. That covers domestic hot water service. It will not rust, pit, scale or corrode, which is why CPVC gets used where copper has been eaten up by aggressive water.
2) Is the Nibco 4732-2 fitting approved for potable drinking water?
It is NSF U.P. Certified and carries NSF/ANSI certification, and it is a lead-free application item. That is what an inspector looks for on potable hot and cold water distribution in both commercial and residential systems.
3) Can I run compressed air through a CPVC compression fitting?
No. The 4732-2 is not for use with compressed air or other gases. It is a water distribution fitting, rated for hot and cold liquid service only. For shop air, use a piping system rated for compressed gas.
4) Do I have to solvent cement this Nibco CPVC transition fitting, or can I make it up dry?
Both, depending on the end. The compression side makes up mechanically with no cement and no cure time, which is what you want on a repair or where you need to break the joint later. The spigot side is a CPVC joint, cemented into a socket. Nibco publishes plastic fittings installation instructions covering the cementing procedure.
5) Will a CPVC CTS fitting work on schedule 40 PVC pipe?
No. This is a CTS (copper tube size) fitting, and CTS and IPS schedule 40 are different outside diameters, so the socket will not fit. CPVC is also the material to use above the temperature range PVC can handle, which is the usual reason a hot water line is CPVC in the first place. Match CTS fittings to CTS tubing, the tan colored kind.
6) What sizes does the Nibco 4732-2 CPVC compression fitting come in?
Two sizes: 1/2 inch (MPN M230000) and 3/4 inch (MPN M230100). Those are the two most common CTS branch and riser sizes in residential and light commercial water distribution, so pick the one matching your existing CPVC tubing OD, not the fixture stub.
7) What is a CPVC transition coupling actually for?
It joins a CPVC CTS run to a different connection style, in this case a compression joint, at a straight size change point. Type of coupling is straight size and transition, so it keeps the line the same nominal size while changing how the joint is made. Use it where you need a mechanical, uncemented takeoff on an otherwise solvent welded CPVC system.
