The CPVC-CTS 90-degree elbow features a male spigot x female socket connection and is used to change the direction of flow. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) has proven to be an excellent material for hot corrosive liquids, hot and cold water distribution, and similar applications above the temperature range of PVC. CPVC will not rust, pit, scale or corrode. CPVC fittings are easy to install and are joined by solvent cementing or threading. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry. FlowGuard Gold® is a registered trademark of The Lubrizol Corporation.

Nibco M059200 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does Spg x S mean on the Nibco 4707-2 CPVC elbow?
Spg x S is spigot by socket, also called a street elbow. One end is a male spigot that is sized like CPVC pipe and drops straight into another fitting's socket; the other end is a female socket that accepts pipe. That lets you turn 90 degrees right off a fitting without cutting a short nipple of pipe to join them.
2) Can I use this CPVC elbow on a hot water line?
Yes, within limits. CPVC handles hot and cold water distribution with a maximum service temperature of 180 F, which covers normal domestic hot water. Do not run it on compressed air or other gases.
3) Is the Nibco 4707-2 elbow approved for potable drinking water?
It is NSF U.P. certified and carries a lead-free application rating, so it is suited to potable hot and cold water distribution in both residential and commercial plumbing.
4) Do I need to glue this CPVC elbow or does it thread on?
Solvent weld only. Both ends of the 4707-2 are solvent cement joints, so you will need CPVC solvent cement (and primer where your local code calls for it). There is no threaded end on this fitting, so if you are transitioning to threaded pipe or a valve you need a separate adapter.
5) What sizes does the Nibco 4707-2 street elbow come in?
Three CTS sizes: 1/2 inch (MPN M059100), 3/4 inch (M059150) and 1 inch (M059200). All three are straight-size, meaning both ends are the same nominal size, so if you need to change size at the turn you want a reducing fitting or a bushing instead.
6) Will this tan CPVC elbow match my existing FlowGuard Gold pipe?
Color-wise, yes. The 4707-2 is tan CPVC in CTS sizing, the same tan CTS system used for hot and cold water distribution lines. Tan CTS CPVC is the residential and commercial water distribution line; the gray fittings you may also have on site are IPS-sized industrial CPVC and are a different system.
7) When should I use a street elbow instead of a regular 90 CPVC elbow?
Use the street version when the turn lands directly at another fitting, a valve socket or a tee, since the male spigot end plugs straight in and saves you cutting and gluing a stub of pipe. Use a standard socket x socket 90 when both sides of the turn are runs of pipe. In tight walls and behind fixtures the street elbow also shortens the overall makeup, which matters when you are fighting for clearance.
8) Will CPVC hold up in a building with aggressive or corrosive water?
CPVC will not rust, pit, scale or corrode, which is why it gets specified for hot corrosive liquids as well as ordinary hot and cold water service above the temperature range PVC can handle. For a property manager standardizing across units, that means no interior scale buildup at the fittings over time.
