The PVC Schedule 40 90-degree street elbow is used in cold water pressure distribution systems including irrigation, pool and spa, potable water and chilled water applications. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability and cost-effectiveness. PVC Schedule 40 is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco L059200 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does Spg x Slip mean on the Nibco 4607-2 street elbow, and how is it different from a regular socket elbow?
Spg x S means one end is a spigot and the other is a socket. The spigot end is sized like pipe, so it drops straight into another fitting's socket, while the slip end takes pipe. That's what makes it a street elbow: you can turn 90 degrees directly off a tee, coupling or valve without cutting a short nipple of pipe to join the two. A standard socket x socket elbow has two hubs and always needs a piece of pipe between it and the next fitting. Use the street version in tight quarters, at pump manifolds and irrigation valve boxes where you're stacking fittings back to back.
2) How do I join the Nibco 4607-2 PVC street elbow, can it be threaded instead?
Solvent weld only on the 4607-2. Both ends are smooth, the spigot and the socket, so it's cemented with PVC primer and cement, not threaded and not glued with a transition adapter. If you need a threaded connection at that turn, you'd use a threaded PVC elbow or run this into a male or female adapter. PVC Schedule 40 as a system can be joined by solvent cementing or threading, but this particular fitting has no threads on either end.
3) Can I use a PVC Schedule 40 street elbow on a hot water line?
No. Maximum service temperature on this PVC fitting is 140 degrees F, which rules out domestic hot water, boiler loops and hot recirculation. It's built for cold water pressure service: potable cold, chilled water, irrigation, pool and spa. For hot water you need CPVC or metal. Note also that PVC pressure ratings fall off as temperature climbs toward that 140 degree ceiling.
4) Can I use PVC Schedule 40 fittings on a compressed air line in my shop?
No, and this one says so outright: do not test or use with compressed air or other gases. PVC under gas pressure can fail by shattering rather than splitting, which is why it's restricted to liquid service. The 4607-2 is for cold water pressure systems. That restriction applies to pressure testing too, so hydrostatic test the line, don't air test it.
5) Will a Nibco 4607-2 street elbow fit Schedule 80 PVC or CPVC pipe?
The 4607-2 is a Schedule 40 fitting, and Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 PVC share the same outside diameters at a given nominal size, so the socket accepts Sch 80 pipe of the same size, and the spigot enters a Sch 80 socket. What changes is pressure rating: the joint is only as good as the Sch 40 fitting, so it does not carry a Sch 80 system's rating. CPVC is a different material with a different cement and different temperature range, and this fitting is PVC, so don't mix it into a CPVC line.
6) What sizes does the Nibco 4607-2 PVC street elbow come in?
Six nominal pipe sizes: 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch. Order by manufacturer part number, L059100 for 1/2 inch, L859150 for 3/4, L059200 for 1 inch, L059250 for 1-1/4, L059300 for 1-1/2 and L059350 for 2 inch. All are straight size, meaning the spigot and socket are the same nominal size, so there's no reducing version in the run.
7) Is a white PVC street elbow the right fitting for a buried irrigation lateral?
Yes for the fitting itself, the 4607-2 is listed for irrigation as well as residential and commercial plumbing, and PVC won't rust, scale, pit or corrode in the ground. It's white Schedule 40, which is the standard pressure-side irrigation fitting for mains and lateral runs up to the valves. Two things it isn't: it's not a drain fitting, and it isn't UV rated for long exposure, so anything left above grade should be sleeved or painted.
8) I need to change direction right at a tee. Do I use a street elbow or a regular 90 with a nipple?
Use the street 90. Cutting a short nipple to link two socket fittings gives you two more glue joints and a length you have to cut accurately in a trench or a valve box; the spigot end of the 4607-2 goes straight into the tee's socket and takes the turn in one joint. Where you want the regular socket x socket 90 instead is mid-run, joining two cut lengths of pipe, since the street elbow only has one pipe socket. On a 90 degree quarter bend in tight quarters, the street fitting is what keeps the assembly compact.
9) Will the Nibco 4607-2 mate with another brand's PVC Schedule 40 fittings and pipe?
It will. Socket and spigot dimensions on Schedule 40 PVC fittings are set by ASTM D2466, which the 4607-2 meets, so it solvent welds to any conforming Sch 40 PVC pipe and fittings regardless of who made them. That matters for MRO and property maintenance work where what's already in the wall came from a different supplier. The one thing to match is material: PVC cement to PVC, not to CPVC or ABS.
10) What else do I need to install a PVC street elbow, is anything included?
The 4607-2 ships as the fitting alone. To make the joints you need PVC primer and PVC solvent cement rated for the pipe size you're working, plus a cutter or saw and a deburring tool to chamfer the pipe end. No gaskets, no O-rings, no thread sealant, it's a cemented joint on both ends. Nibco points installers to its plastic fittings installation instructions for cure and set times, which vary with pipe size and ambient temperature.
