The PVC Schedule 40 90-degree elbow is used in cold water pressure distribution systems including irrigation, pool and spa, potable water and chilled water applications. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability and cost-effectiveness. PVC Schedule 40 is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco L855750 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Nibco 4607 PVC elbow work on a compressed air line?
No, and this one matters. The 4607 Schedule 40 PVC elbow is for cold water pressure service only, and NIBCO states plainly not to test or use it with compressed air or other gases. Use it on irrigation, pool and spa, potable water and chilled water. For shop air, run metal or a piping system rated for gas service.
2) What is the maximum temperature for a Nibco 4607 Schedule 40 PVC elbow?
140 degrees F is the ceiling on the 4607 elbow. That rules it out for hot water distribution, boiler feed, or any recirculating hot line. It is fine on chilled water, potable cold, irrigation and pool and spa returns. Keep in mind PVC pressure ratings fall off as temperature climbs toward that limit.
3) Does a slip x slip PVC elbow need glue, or does it thread on?
Slip means solvent weld, so the 4607 is cemented, not threaded. Both ends are socket (S x S), so the pipe goes into the fitting and is joined with PVC primer and solvent cement. There are no threads on either end. If you need to break the joint later for service, put a union or a threaded adapter in the run, because a cemented socket joint is permanent.
4) Can I get a PVC 90 elbow that reduces from 1 inch to 3/4 inch in one fitting?
Yes. The Nibco 4607 comes in reducing sizes as well as straight ones, so you turn and reduce in a single fitting instead of stacking a bushing behind an elbow. The reducing combinations are 3/4 x 1/2, 1 x 3/4, 1 x 1/2, 1-1/4 x 1, 1-1/4 x 3/4 and 2 x 1-1/2 inch. The 1 x 3/4 inch is MPN L05580YP.
5) Is the Nibco 4607 PVC elbow approved for potable drinking water?
It carries NSF/ANSI/CAN-61 certification and is NSF U.P. Certified, and NIBCO lists potable water among its applications. The fitting is also flagged lead-free. That is the pairing an institutional or municipal spec normally asks for on a cold potable line.
6) Does the Nibco 4607 elbow meet ASTM D2466 for my submittal?
Yes, in 1/2 to 4 inch and 8 inch it is made to ASTM D2466, the standard for Schedule 40 PVC socket fittings. The compound is ASTM D1784 cell class 12454, and the fitting is UL Listed 94V-0 for flammability. Those three plus NSF/ANSI/CAN-61 are usually what a spec reviewer wants on a submittal sheet.
7) Should I use PVC or CPVC elbows for my job?
Go by water temperature. The 4607 is PVC, capped at 140 degrees F, and belongs on cold water: irrigation, pool and spa, chilled water and cold potable. CPVC handles hot water distribution, which PVC does not. Both solvent weld, but they use different cements and are not interchangeable in a hot line. For commercial or residential cold water and irrigation, PVC Sch 40 is the normal call.
8) Will PVC elbows hold up buried in soil or in a pool equipment pad?
PVC does not rust, scale, pit or corrode, which is why it holds up underground and around chlorinated pool water where metal fittings fail. The 4607 has high corrosion and chemical resistance and is listed for pool and spa as well as irrigation service. Watch the 140 degree F limit near heater discharge, and keep it out of direct sun long term if the run is above grade.
9) Will a white PVC elbow match my existing irrigation lines, or do I need gray?
The 4607 is white, which is the standard color for PVC Schedule 40 pressure fittings and what most cold water and irrigation systems are built from. Gray typically means Schedule 80 or electrical conduit. If the fittings already in your ground are white Sch 40, these match visually and dimensionally.
10) What is the part number for a 4 inch Nibco 90-degree PVC slip elbow?
The 4 inch Nibco 4607 slip x slip 90 is MPN L05720Y. Nearby large sizes: 3 inch is L05690Y, 5 inch is L057220P, 6 inch is L857250 and 8 inch is L05730YP. All are Schedule 40, socket both ends.
