The PVC DWV test tee features a hub x hub x cleanout connection with a plug to test the tightness of the system by assessing potential leakage. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness. PVC DWV is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco K159100 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What sizes does the Nibco 4814 PVC DWV test tee come in?
The Nibco 4814 test tee is offered in four pipe sizes: 1-1/2 inch (K159050), 2 inch (K159100), 3 inch (K159150) and 4 inch (K159250). All are straight size, meaning the run and the cleanout branch match the nominal pipe size, so a 3 inch tee takes 3 inch DWV pipe on both hubs.
2) How does the Nibco 4814 test tee connect to the pipe?
Two solvent weld hubs on the run and a female threaded cleanout branch, listed as Hub x Hub x F. The hubs are cemented to Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe with solvent cement, and the plug threads into the branch. No gaskets, no clamps, no special tooling beyond primer and cement.
3) Does the Nibco 4814 test tee come with the cleanout plug, or do I order it separately?
The plug is included. The 4814 ships as a test tee with plug, so the threaded branch is closed out of the box and you do not need a separate cleanout plug to complete the assembly.
4) Can I air-test a drain line with the Nibco 4814 PVC test tee?
No. Nibco states plainly that this PVC DWV fitting must not be tested or used with compressed air or other gases. Use a water test. The tee exists to let you block the line and check for leakage with liquid, then pull the plug and put the branch to work as a cleanout.
5) Does the Nibco 4814 test tee meet code for a commercial building inspection?
It is manufactured to ASTM D2665 and D3311, certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14, and carries NSF U.P. certification. Nibco lists it for both commercial and residential plumbing, so it is the usual specified fitting for a Schedule 40 PVC DWV system on either job type.
6) What temperature can PVC DWV fittings like the Nibco 4814 handle?
140 degrees F maximum service temperature. That covers normal drain, waste and vent duty, but it rules out anything discharging sustained high-temperature effluent, such as a commercial dishwasher or boiler blowdown line where CPVC or cast iron is the right call.
7) What is the difference between a test tee and a regular sanitary tee on a drain stack?
A sanitary tee takes a branch drain line into the stack. The 4814 test tee is not a drainage branch at all, its third opening is a female threaded cleanout port closed by a plug. You set it where you need to isolate and test the system for leakage, and it stays in place afterward as the access point for rodding out the line. If you are picking up a fixture arm, you want a sanitary tee instead.
8) Will a PVC test tee corrode in a waste line?
PVC will not rust, scale, pit or corrode, and it holds up to corrosive and chemical waste better than metal fitting. That is the usual reason it gets specified over cast iron in maintenance and repair work, along with the lighter weight and easier handling on a ladder or in a chase.
