The PVC DWV offset adjustable closet flange features a plastic coated steel flange and a hub connection. The closet flange is secured to the floor of the dwelling so that a toilet can be affixed to it and allow for a pipe connection (under the floor) to continue the piping for evacuation of the used water. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness. PVC DWV is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco K325250 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is an offset closet flange for, and when do I need one instead of a straight flange?
An offset closet flange like the Nibco 4848-A shifts the toilet's floor opening away from the centerline of the drain below it. That's what you use when the closet bend under the floor doesn't land where the toilet has to sit, typically a rough-in that came in short or a joist in the way. If the drain is already centered under the toilet, a straight PVC DWV closet flange is the simpler part. The 4848-A is a 4 inch by 3 inch PVC DWV fitting with a plastic coated steel flange ring.
2) How does the Nibco 4848-A closet flange connect to the drain pipe, glue or thread?
Solvent weld. The 4848-A has an H hub socket that cements over the outside of the pipe, so you need PVC primer and DWV solvent cement, not a threaded or gasketed joint. Dry fit it first, because once the cement grabs there is no rotating it to line the bolt slots up.
3) Does the 4 x 3 Nibco offset closet flange fit 3 inch pipe or 4 inch pipe?
Both, in the way that designation means on a closet flange: the flange body is 4 inch at the toilet opening and the hub takes 3 inch DWV pipe below. So it drops onto a 3 inch closet bend, which is the usual residential and light commercial toilet drain. If your closet bend is 4 inch, this is the wrong size part.
4) Can I use a PVC closet flange on a commercial job, or is it residential only?
The 4848-A is rated for both commercial and residential plumbing. It is schedule 40 PVC DWV built to ASTM D2665 and D3311, and it carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 with NSF U.P. certification, which is what most inspectors want to see on a plastic drain fitting in an occupied building.
5) What does adjustable mean on this closet flange, and does it help me line up the toilet bolts?
The steel ring on the 4848-A rotates on the PVC body, so after the hub is cemented to the pipe you can still turn the ring to square the closet bolts to the wall. That is the whole point of an adjustable flange: the glue joint fixes the drain, the ring still moves. On a fixed flange you have to get the rotation right before the cement sets.
6) Will a steel closet flange ring rust out on a bathroom floor?
The ring on the 4848-A is plastic coated steel, so the coating is what stands between the metal and the wax ring seepage. Steel gives you a stiffer bolt slot than an all plastic ring, which matters where a toilet gets rocked, like a school or a public restroom. If the floor is routinely wet or the flange sits in a slab that stays damp, an all PVC ring is the part that cannot corrode at all.
7) What temperature can a Nibco PVC DWV closet flange handle, and can I run hot waste through it?
140 degrees F is the maximum service temperature on this PVC DWV line. Normal toilet and lavatory waste is nowhere near that, but a commercial kitchen or a laundry discharging above 140 needs CPVC or cast iron on that branch, not PVC DWV. Also do not pressure test the line with compressed air or any gas.
8) What else do I need to order with a closet flange to set the toilet?
The 4848-A is the flange only. Plan on PVC primer and DWV solvent cement for the hub joint, floor anchors suited to your subfloor (wood screws for plywood, masonry anchors for slab), closet bolts, and a wax ring or waxless seal. If the finished floor was built up with tile or a topper, check the flange sits on top of the finished floor before you set the bowl.
9) Is the Nibco offset closet flange white, and will it match the rest of my PVC DWV?
White, which is the standard color for PVC DWV fittings, so it blends with the rest of a white PVC drain assembly. The visible part after the toilet is set is only the ring and the bolt slots anyway.
